Helldivers 2 is a PlayStation-exclusive title that also launched on PC to help Sony increase its profits from its first-party console titles. However, a new rumor suggests the company may go as far as to release the game on Xbox.
The intel comes from known industry insider Shpeshal Nick, who shared the rumor in a recent episode of the XboxEra podcast. He said,
“What I’ve heard, again, just the rumor that I’ve heard, is that there may be some very very early – very early – preliminary discussions about the possibility of Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox.”
Referring to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s interim CEO Hiroki Totoki, Nick said,
“We know that PlayStation has a new CEO at the moment. I think the CEO might be a little more open to certain things.”
Earlier this year, Totoki had reportedly revealed that Sony was inclined on aggressively growing its profit margin through first-party PC releases. While there was no talk of an Xbox release plan, it would certainly make sense for a game like Helldivers 2.
Released in February 2024, Helldivers 2 is one of the biggest surprise hits of the year. The game quickly rose in SteamDB’s list of Most Played Games and reached a peak concurrent player count of 458,709. Even at the time of this writing, the game has over 100,000 concurrent players. And these digits do not include PS5 players.
Considering the game’s massive success and Sony’s focus on profit margins, Helldivers 2 releasing on Xbox is a very real possibility.
