Sonic Frontiers may have received generally mixed reviews, but the 2022 platform game sold more than 3 million copies. It is no surprise then that SEGA is rumored to be working on Sonic Frontiers 2.
Popular leaker Daniel Richtman aka DanielRPK first shared the intel with Sonic fans on his Patreon. Shortly after, the rumor was corroborated by another known leaker, MbKKssTBhz5 aka Midori. They claimed that while the sequel would have a similar gameplay style, the name itself could change.
The tweet read,
“The title is a sequel to Frontiers in gameplay style. But the name might change. Frontiers was Rangers until it was announced.”
Both the leakers have had a good track record, so there could be some substance to this rumor. The first game sold well and probably made SEGA good money, so a sequel could very well be on the cards. However, SEGA hasn’t officially revealed anything yet. Sonic Frontiers brought the beloved character into an open world game for the very first time, and it would be interesting to see what the next installment brings to the table.
For now, Sonic fans are anticipating Sonic X Shadow Generations, which is supposed to release this fall. There’s also a third Sonic film coming out this December, starring Keanu Reeves, so fans of the franchise have enough content to enjoy until we hear more about Sonic Frontiers 2.
