When you get into Killing Floor 3, you see a bunch of premade characters. Based on the way this menu is designed, it looks almost as if you can customize it or make these characters look the way you’d like.
Looking around won’t reveal an obvious way to customize the characters in Killing Floor 3, but games tend to hide some features. So if you’re wondering if you can create a character to look the way you’d want, you’re not alone.
How Customization Actually Works in Killing Floor 3

Yes, you can customize your character in Killing Floor 3, but there’s no traditional character creation system. Instead of building a hero from scratch, you play as one of the Specialists — pre-made characters with set backstories and unique abilities and then personalize how they look through cosmetics. It’s a system that doesn’t change their role in combat but still gives you enough room to make them feel like your own.
Every Specialist in Killing Floor 3, whether you prefer the close-quarters Ninja, the Sharpshooter covering fights from afar, or the Medic keeping the squad alive, comes with fixed skills and loadouts. What you’re able to change is their appearance. Outfits, headgear, and even weapon skins can be swapped out to make your chosen Specialist stand out in matches.
At launch, certain skins are tied to special editions of the game. For example, the Deluxe Edition includes the Shadow Agent Specialist Skin Set, which works on all Specialists. Pre-order bonuses also add a few cosmetic items early on, giving you more variety right from the start.

How To Unlock More Looks
Outside of edition bonuses, there are two main ways to get more cosmetics: the in-game Store and the Supply Pass. The Store is where premium skins and DLC bundles show up, while the latter acts like a progression system. Playing matches earns you Supply Tickets which unlock cosmetics as you advance through the pass tiers.
If you’re looking to speed up the process, daily and weekly Assignments give bonus XP. By completing higher difficulties you earn more tickets, but it is probably best to wait until you have upgraded your perks and weapons before attempting higher or Nightmare Modes.
Will Full Customization Ever Be Added To KF3?
Right now, cosmetic skins are the only form of customization in Killing Floor 3. There’s no sign of a deeper character creator being added.
Given the way the game handles cosmetics, it’s likely that new outfits and skin packs will be added over time. We’ll just have to wait for updates and events to get more customization options.
