Borderlands 4 is a looter-shooter, and managing the items that you get is part of the gameplay loop. If you want to drop items in Borderlands 4, you can do it by pressing R on PC, Y on Xbox, and Triangle on PlayStation. All you need to do is open your Backpack and then hover the cursor over the particular item and hold any of the buttons depending on the platform. This will drop the loot on the ground, which you can pick up again or let it remain discarded.
Apart from that, if you’re currently holding a weapon in your hand, and you pick up a different one, the one in your hand will be dropped. Finally, it’s possible to drop your items by pressing the End button on your keyboard for PC. The problem is that there is no button configuration for End on Consoles. As such, the only way to do it is by either pressing Y or Triangle, depending on whether it’s Xbox or PC.

When you drop an item in Borderlands 4, it remains on the ground until it eventually despawns. As such, it’s not recommended to drop items unless you really want to discard them. Otherwise, keep them in your inventory for a while until you find the appropriate replacement, and then you can drop them.
It’s also possible that your party members pick up the dropped items in Borderlands 4. This makes it easy to share loot, especially because in this game, every person receives different loot.
