Confirming the predictions by Billbil-kun, Battlefield 2042 Elite Edition was released today. Players who already own the game will get a free Elite upgrade to the base game.
According to the EA website, Battlefield 2042 Elite Edition will offer new players, who are getting their hands on the game for the first time, all the elements offered in Year One of the upgrades. The developers have also announced expansions in the game’s arsenal, added a lot of new elements, and included Battlefield Portal. According to the developer, the Elite Edition is currently available for purchase and will be playable from 8 PM PT tonight.
Apart from 17+ maps that players can take their battles into, EA has announced inclusion of various new elements, such as
- 4 new Specialists
- 10 new weapons
- 6 new vehicles
The upgrade also includes the “Lost World” Epic Cosmetic Bundle containing:
- Epic “Forsaken” Rao Specialist Set
- Epic “Starved Vulture” Vehicle Skin
- Epic “Banisher” Weapon Skin
The Elite Edition for Battlefield 2042 is available for purchase through Epic Store, while EA is offering a Elite Upgrade for the original title through their website. This new edition is available for all the platforms that the original game runs on – PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
There are still no details about whether players will gain access to any new maps or if they would be a part of Battlefield 2042’s season 5, expected to drop in June 2023.
The announcement of Battlefield 2042 Elite Edition came as a surprise to the fans, as EA and DICE are also reportedly working on a new Battlefield game. With their key competitor, Activision, releasing a new Call of Duty game this year, players were surely hoping to get their hands on a new Battlefield game. However, with the Elite Edition and the upcoming season 5 of the game (marking beginning of Year Two of upgrades), a new BF title this year doesn’t sound promising.
