To say that the world and people of My Hero Academia are quirky (pun intended) and bizarre is like saying that the sky is blue. Of course, what else would you expect from a world where 90 percent of the world has superpowers? From ice and fire generation to the simple ability to become invincible, the people (and animals) of My Hero Academia are all interesting in their own ways, with the potential to indulge the escapist power fantasy of every individual.
However, one category that has remained underrated across all discussions is Horikoshi’s amazing capacity of endowing quirks related to animals. While some animals like Principal Nezu can manifest Quirks, others can transform into animals or have animal DNA inside them (yes, we are thinking of our favorite frog girl, Froppy). Yet, others can control animals, such as Koji Koda, but this list does not include him as he does not look or possess the unique ability of any particular or a group of animals. Whatever their unique ability might be, these animal-based quirks need some love, and we are here to deliver on the same.
Frog and 9 other animal-based Quirks that My Hero Academia boasts
1. Hound Dog with his Quirk Dog
Due to his Quirk, Dog, guidance counsellor Hound Dog, who works at U.A. High School, resembles a dog. When enraged, he frequently speaks in a sequence of growls and howls, entirely forgetting how to use human speech.
He is frequently seen with a muzzle on his face, which makes it challenging for people to understand him. Additionally, he possesses other canine-like traits, such as an enhanced sense of smell.
2. Mirko with her Quirk Rabbit
Mirko has a quirk called Rabbit, which, as implied by her name Rumi “Usagi” yama, gives her the skills and the furry appearance of a rabbit.
She wears boots that give the impression that she has rabbit feet and has very fluffy whitish ears and even a tail. Moreover, Mirko can kick her opponents hard because of her remarkable quickness, keen hearing, and strong legs. She can also feel the level of risk that someone poses to her.
3. Gang Orca with his Quirk Orcinus
Gang Orca is undoubtedly one of the most menacing Pro Heroes in My Hero Academia. Because of his Quirk, Orcinus, he has a killer whale appearance while having a primarily human shape. Gang Orca has amazing strength both on land and at sea, even though his abilities are strengthened in the water.
Sonic waves, one of Gang Orca’s other weapons, can be used to block a variety of long-range Quirks, even including Shoto Todoroki’s ice-based glacier attacks. Although Shoto and wind-based Inasa Yoarashi were two of the exam’s toughest candidates, he had no trouble defeating them.
4. Centipeder with his Quirk Centipede
Working at Sir Nighteye’s Hero Office, Centipeder is depicted as being overburdened with tasks that Sir Nighteye once had previously completed on his own. His body also resembles that of a human, with the sole exception of his head.
When he uses his Quirk, Centipede, his arms change into centipede-like creatures. He attacks and seizes enemies from a distance using these extended limbs. Despite his frightening appearance, Centipeder is a kind and fashionable hero.
5. Fumikage Tokoyami with his Quirk Dark Shadow
Let’s be real, the creators had no reason to make Tokoyami crow-like or even provide bird-like features to his Dark Shadow. Fumikage is a member of Class 1-A at U.A. While the majority of his body is still human or anthropomorphic, somehow his head and neck have a black bird’s appearance. When called, his Quirk, Dark Shadow, also assumes a bird-like shape, but that is the extent of the avian resemblance.
Fumikage’s strong shadow emerges from his body and grows more potent in dimly lit areas. It becomes weaker in the bright light, making it simpler to manage during the day. On the other side, total darkness increases its propensity for ravaging. In addition, Fumikage can fly with Dark Shadow, which has tremendous attacking and defensive powers.
6. Nezu with his Quirk High Spec
Nezu, the U.A. High School’s principal, has a mouse-like appearance. In My Hero Academia, he genuinely is a mouse, which explains why he looks like an actual animal rather than only due of his Quirk. Nezu is an exceptional instance of an animal acquiring a Quirk.
He is more clever than most people, thanks to a Quirk known as High Spec, enabling him to coexist peacefully with humans. During Mina Ashido and her partner Denki Kaminari’s final exam, he is seen using his Quirk somewhat cruelly, chuckling as he blocked their escape routes with a construction crane.
7. Froppy with her Quirk Frog
Tsuyu Asui, a member of U.A. Class 1-A, has the appropriately called Quirk Frog. She moves around on all fours and has been noted have the same abilities as a frog, including the ability to extend her tongue, adhere to walls, camouflage, and secrete mucus with a large variety of effects.
She resembles the animal visually in a variety of ways, including having round eyes, big hands, a broad mouth, and a lengthy tongue. She can also hold objects in her stomach, store and then regurgitate them, However she finds this specific ability embarrassing.
8. Jack Mantis with Quirk Razor Blade
Remember Scyther from Pokemon? Make him a little more human, and you got Jack Mantis, who has got his namesake insect in his very name. A kid in Class 1-B named Jack Mantis looks like a praying mantis, and especially when he uses his Quirk. His special ability, known as Razor Sharp, enables him to produce blades from any area of his body.
He utilises these blades to easily cut through steel pipes, demonstrating that they are far stronger and more durable than they appear to be. Despite Jack Mantis’ quick reflexes and his resistance to his own explosion, Katsuki Bakugo manages to dispatch the bug hero in a flash.
9. Ryukyu with her Quirk Dragon
Dragon gives users the ability to change into the potent mythical dragon. They acquire features often associated with dragons in this form, such as flight and strong jaws and claws. The attachment that resembles a claw on Ryuko’s skull appears to be linked to the activation of this Quirk.
Despite being weakened by his Quirk and having just dodged one of Nejire Hado’s shockwaves, Ryuko’s physical strength in this form allowed her to restrain a yakuza member with enhanced strength and block a punch from him with ease. Later, she was also able to knock him back and hurt him. She becomes far more durable as well, enabling her to withstand the most potent strike from one of her students.
10. Hawks with his Quirk Fierce Wings
He has a set of large red wings because to Hawks’ Quirk, which allows him to fly quite quickly like a… surprise surprise, hawk. In addition to being able to fly, Hawks has the ability to telekinetically manipulate each and every one of his feathers. He may launch them from his wings for a variety of purposes, including as assaulting bad guys or rescuing people.
His feathers are strong yet lightweight, and hawks can use his longer feathers as blades. In addition, in Hawks can identify people and listen in on conversations by using his feathers to pick up on nearby sounds and vibrations. The more feathers Hawks utilises, the worse off his ability to fly is. Lastly, his feathers are flame-sensitive.
