One of the best parts about Demon Slayer and its storytelling style is the amount of intricate detail that often goes into specific characters, their backstories, and even unique objects of use. One of the recent characters that has received the lion’s share of the spotlight in recent chapters is Mitsuri Kanroji, or the Love Hashira.
However, eagle-eyed viewers may have realized that the Love Hashira’s demon-slaying sword is vastly different from the blades used by the other Hashiras. The difference does not stem from the colour alone, although the Love Hashira’s sword is bright pink. Instead, her sword differs from that of her peers in terms of their overall shape and functionality as well.

Pinkness isn’t the only thing that makes Mitsuri’s sword unique from the others. Mitsuri’s sword is more like a sharp whip than a katana, to be more precise. She carries a standard-sized sheath with her, and to resheath it, she probably needs to fold and wrap it numerous times, or else she could be able to transform it into a typical Nichirin sword.
The uniqueness of each Nichirin sword depends on the user, the blade’s color will change. So, what distinguishes Mitsuri Kanroji’s sword from others? The personality of Mitsuri holds the key. She continuously tries to see the best in others and is recognised for her compassion and kindness. This facet of her character is reflected in her sword, which stands for her compassion and love for others.
Mitsuri also has a distinctive combat technique from the other Hashira. She employs a method called “Love Breathing” that enables her to control and harness her emotions. This move has a connection to the design of her sword and symbolises her love and compassion for humanity. This is an important aspect that ties her to the protagonists’ team and also celebrates a prominent theme of the narrative, i.e., humanity.

However, the differences are not simply relegated to the thematic angle. The style of weapon that best utilises Mitsuri’s Love Breathing Style, distinctive muscular density, and ludicrous flexibility is another reason why her blade is unique. In order to maintain this composition, Mitsuri’s body has a unique physical makeup that makes her muscles eight times denser than those of a typical person. She also has a rather large appetite.
But the paradoxical nature of her strength lies in her strong muscles, which does not make her any less flexible. Despite the fact that she can get rather muscular, she is incredibly flexible, which enables her to fight at a distance. It is the main factor behind how effortlessly she is able to manipulate her whip-like katana. This provides her with the ability to land and parry powerful blows when used in conjunction with her Love Breathing technique.
The discovery of Love Hashira’s nichirin sword, which is rather ridiculous in comparison to any other weapon in the series, including Gyomei’s Nichirin Ball and Chain, is one of the highlights of the Swordsmith Village arc. She is one of the nine Hashiras, the most powerful and competent demon slayers in existence. As the Hashira of Love, Mitsuri wields a sword that is distinct from those of the other Hashiras and suits her power, personality, and skill set.

Her combat prowess is essential in highlighting her as a potent force in a genre (aka shonen) that lacks strong female characters for the most part. Mitsuri’s appearance is traditionally feminine, and pink seems to be her token colour. However, that is often regarded as the color of love and far from making her weak. This overarching love and devotion to her fellow fighters enables her to become a beloved character in the series.
