The mystery around the biological father of the Hoshino twins, Aqua and Ruby, has been much anticipated within the Oshi no Ko fandom. The identity has been important since their father was the one who originally orchestrated the murder of Aqua and Ruby’s mother and pop star idol, Ai Hoshino. Naturally, the eagerness towards knowing the father’s identity will be much higher as it acts as the catalyst that pushes Oshi no Ko’s narrative forward.
Although suspense around the murder mystery is a vital factor of Oshi no Ko, the manga doesn’t waste much time to reveal the identity of the father, who happens to be Hikaru Kamiki. Evidently, the man had ill intentions, but Hikaru has psychological issues that sees him working in mysterious ways to harm budding pop stars. As a result, Ai might have not been the only one who suffered a tragic fate out of their reunion. However, how did his kids uncover the truth about their father? And what does it mean for them?

How did the truth surface?
White roses are known to symbolize loyalty, purity, and innocence. They could also symbolize eternal love.
This all makes me think that the Hikaru that we've seen in both these scenes isn't a bad person. I mean, why would he be visiting Ai's grave otherwise? What's the point? pic.twitter.com/TToFFamgYE— Lou (@miyukazuu) June 7, 2023
The big reveal comes in chapter 96 of Oshi no Ko when Akane Kurokawa receives white roses after her win at the Japan Film Awards. The bouquet of white roses had a card that congratulated the actress, but it didn’t mention the sender’s name. Having known about Aqua’s deductions about the killer/father being associated with Ai through Lala Lai, Akane rummages through the entertainment agency’s site to see specific videos of the man.
While there, she comes to realize that Taiki Himekawa’s and the Hoshino twins’ father might be the same given their physical features. However, making some further deductions, Akane discovers at the end of the chapter that the culprit is Hikaru Kamiki, who was a 15-year-old middle school student when he impregnated Ai Hoshino.

It is then later revealed that Hikaru has a sadistic nature as he enjoys killing his victims using sophisticated and well thought out plans. This was seen when he instigated Ai’s obsessive fan, Ryosuke, by revealing that she has children, which prompted the stalker to stab his favorite idol in a fit of rage.
Although Akane decides to initially tell Aqua about the identity of the father, he soon finds out about Hikaru when the young actress looks for him herself. Aqua had secretly planted a tracker on Akane, which helped him to track her movements and get him to uncover the truth of the father. While this incident eventually causes Akane and Aqua to break up, the latter decides to seek revenge against Ai’s murderer on his own. However, his sister, Ruby, is yet to know about it.
How does the knowledge affect the plot of Oshi no Ko?

The main premise of Oshi no Ko is a conventional murder mystery. For the majority of the series (as of chapter 119) has been to uncover the murderer of Ai and the father of Aqua and Ruby. Now, both of them are conflated, according to Aqua’s theories and the later introduction of Hikaru into the story. But now that the primary suspect has been identified, he is yet to be brought to justice’s door. While readers may know of Hikaru as the major antagonist, except for a few characters in the manga, almost everyone is unaware of the fact that the primary suspect is the real culprit.
Moreover, Hikaru Kamiki maintains a false image (a double persona to be precise) in front of others. It is done through subtle guise, where he is often seen wearing dark sunglasses, covering his eyes, doing a different hairstyle, etc. And as per the latest revelations in Oshi no Ko manga, he is known to have instigated the murder of four characters in the story – Ai Hoshino, Yua Katayose, Airi Himekawa, and Seijuurou Uehara. Although the legal charges of the latter’s death would be ambiguous, the speculations all arise from Akane’s theorizations. Then there is the murder of Aqua’s previous life as Gorou Amamiya.

Oshi no Ko has been hailed as a series that has provided a raw, albeit dramatized, picture of the dark realities of the entertainment industry. However, one must not forget that at the crux of this is the murder mystery, which is the essential root of the story. Thus, even though Hikaru Kamiki’s identity is revealed to the readers, the focus now would be to bring justice to the victims. While all is not possible, as Airi Himekawa’s criminal offense might not surface, but the story would be heavily reliant on the mind-games employed by Hikaru and Aqua. Then there is Ruby, who is yet to know about Hikaru and makes one wonder if she will eventually help her brother in his investigation. So far, only Aqua and Akane are involved, but more characters may join in as well.
However, if not arrested and imprisoned, Hikaru may choose to die on his own accord, which will then make Aqua’s pursuits and motivations to find the murderer futile. He may suffer the same change in mood and demeanor as Thorfinn at the end of Vinland Saga season 1, who, after the death of his father’s murderer, lost his ambition as well. Hence, with much of the theorization still having flaws, it can be sure that it will be long before the chase in Oshi no Ko comes to an end.
