29. A Plague Tale: Requiem (2022)
Action/Adventure | Metacritic Score: 82

Image via Focus Entertainment
Requiem is a promising sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence. It builds on the original game’s events, offering an even stronger story, and adding more characters and new locations to explore. Its stealth and combat mechanics have been significantly upgraded, making your character’s death less punishing. Despite how horrifying some scenes can be, the game is gorgeous to watch, thanks to the absurdly high number of rats on screen throughout some parts of the game.
A Plague Tale: Requiem is nonchalantly among the PS5’s top narrative-driven games.
28. Stray (2020)
Action/Adventure/Platformer | Metacritic Score: 83

Image via Annapurna Interactive
Stray’s consistently adorable charm was carried well with its marketing. From the trailers themselves, we could anticipate playing as a cat in a cyberpunk universe with a vivid atmosphere. Additionally, the cat’s perspective effortlessly plays into its gameplay. From solving puzzles to platforming across gorgeous vicinities, Stray plays on a cat’s curiosity without losing the modern-day AAA touch.
Stray is a fantastic platforming adventure with a captivating, semi-post-apocalyptic narrative. More often than not, you’ll find yourself roaming through deserted environments where AI and trash find a sad comfort in each other’s presence.
27. Metaphor: ReFantazio (2024)

Third-Person Shooter/Cooperative | Metacritic Score: 82

Image via Arrowhead Studios
Arrowhead Studios’ take on cooperative third-person shooters is a lot of fun with its unique premise, terrifying enemies, and a frenetic gameplay loop that has kept its players coming back for more. Stepping into the shoes of the Helldivers means war with the enemies of Super Earth in missions that are as unpredictable as they are fun.

Action/Adventure/Platformer | Metacritic Score: 88

Image via PlayStation Studios
The Ratchet and Clank duo is an adorably dorky one. They’ve given us years of platforming, funky adventure stories, and characters representing some of PlayStation’s best.
Undoubtedly, Ratchet and Clank is the best one so far. It is also a powerful showcase of what the PS5 can do. Doctor Nefarious has been at it again, tearing up realities between dimensions. Ratchet and Clank are split up and enlist the help of fellow Lombax, Rivet, to stitch the universe back together. Traversing through the rifts feels seamless and causes no loading times.
22. Resident Evil 4 Remake (2023)
Action/Adventure/Horror | Metacritic Score: 93

Image via Capcom
Leon’s journey in an infected world is a memorable one. The classic title had an unexpected rendition wrapped in a modern taste. Remaking Resident Evil 4 (one of the greatest Resident Evil games ever) was a risk, but happily, it paid off well.
The original is still fundamental in every way, but Capcom updates it to match more modern games in terms of appearance and feel. Along with the legendary characters and all the familiar claustrophobic combat, it’s also one of the greatest PS5 games you can play now.
21. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023)
Action/Adventure/Open Zone | Metacritic Score: 85

Image via Electronic Arts
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was exactly what fans needed as a Star Wars game. It had been a while since we received a well-written game dabbling with a saga in the galaxy far, far away. With the game’s success, a sequel was immediately in the works. The sequel is everything we hoped for and more! The combat has new shades of authenticity with the introduction of ‘stances.’ The environments feel almost like an open world, with vast planets ready to be discovered. Cal’s use of Force brings him face-to-face with new enemy types and boss battles. The game is everything Fallen Order got right, expanded onto a stronger storyline and cast of galaxy-hardened characters.
The game’s engine shines extraordinarily well on the PS5. You can experience this to its best when you discover various ways of traversing spaces in the game. You can now ride and fly, using your Force abilities to explore smaller environments.
20. Bloodborne (2015)
Action/RPG | Metacritic Score: 92

Image via FromSoftware
Bloodborne continues to make its presence felt among the best exclusive titles the PlayStation has to offer. Despite its age, FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki’s action RPG is a masterclass in combat with a plethora of weapons that transform based on your needs alongside terrifying enemies and environments that could make your skin crawl.
Danger lurks around every corner in this tough-as-nails title from the creator of Dark Souls, with a focus on aggressive, fast-paced combat as opposed to its inspirations’ more methodical approach. Bloodborne is not for the faint-hearted and is a title that is both rewarding and memorable for those determined enough to see it through.
19. Sifu (2022)
Action/Fighting | Metacritic Score: 86

Image via Sloclap
Sifu fulfills every combat ‘itch’ you’ve had in fighting games. The parrying, the combos, and the learning curve blend into one spiritual action experience. It’s a traditional martial arts narrative told over numerous metropolitan settings, each featuring distinct fighting situations and harsh bosses. If you’re new to games that test your raw reflexes, you’re in for a lesson or two.
Sifu is a beat ’em up unlike any other at the moment. It’s a fine addition to your PlayStation collection. Finding games with such polish and solid combat mechanics is rare, and that’s where Sifu makes its mark.
18. Last of Us Part 2 (2020)
Action/Adventure/Open Zone | Metacritic Score: 93

Image via PlayStation Studios
The controversial sequel to The Last of Us Part I follows a horrifying and vengeful tale set in a world fans are familiar with. Despite the criticism for certain narrative choices and storytelling, The Last of Us Part II is a stunning game with gameplay that tests the might of modern gaming capabilities.
Despite its gore and carnage, it’s a magnificent game, with recreations of post-apocalyptic Seattle and Santa Barbara that are amazing in detail and grandeur. This game has lush, beautiful, horrifying, and horrific visuals and sounds. The Last Of Us Part II undoubtedly ranks among the top games of the generation in terms of presentation and art direction.
17. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (2022)
Action/Adventure/Open Zone | Metacritic Score: 89

Image via Square Enix
The PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake shows off improved visuals and tech polish. It gives a finer touch to the overall experience, including Episode INTERmission. The initial several hours of the original Final Fantasy VII are recounted and reimagined in Final Fantasy VII Remake. It follows the shiftings of AVALANCHE, a group that protests Shinra. Shinra is an authoritative energy company that physically bleeds the planet dry to maintain its supremacy. The entirety of Remake is set in Midgar, a vast industrial metropolis that serves as Shinra’s headquarters.
Intergrade is a brilliant way to experience the return of Cloud, one of the most loved video game protagonists. Remake continues to be a game with ups and downs regarding worldbuilding. But many of its most memorable moments have already materialized by the time the credits roll.
16. Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West (2022)
Action/Adventure/Open World | Metacritic Score: 88

Image via Sony Interactive Entertainment

With Forbidden West, your adventures continue as you defend a planet from enormous robot dinosaurs. You will encounter compelling characters and side quests that will test your mettle as you battle to maintain peace.
15. Death Stranding: Director’s Cut (2021)
Action/Adventure/Open World | Metacritic Score: 86

Image via PlayStation Studios
With his PlayStation 4 game Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima made a comeback in 2019. The title took the heights of bizarre themes and made it its selling point. As it turned out, the game was unlike anything else published then, but only to some’s taste. You take on the role of a man who delivers packages and hopes to restore the world. Death Stranding’s post-apocalyptic themes and diversified multiplayer aspects improvised on the idea and importance of human connection.
The Director’s Cut version of Death Stranding is an excellent rendition of an intriguing game. It adds fresh features that improve the gameplay, significantly improving graphics and performance. This is the most adequate approach to complete Kojima Productions’ crazy adventure.
While the Director’s Cut undoubtedly puts the game in its finest light, it won’t make anyone’s opinion change one way or another about the game. Death Stranding either puts you in the most inspired and soulful setting or ultimately puts you off.
14. Astro Bot (2024)
Platformer | Metacritic Score: 94

Image via Sony Interactive Entertainment
Sony’s follow-up to Astro’s Playroom builds on all that was good in the original game while adding features and gameplay elements that allowed this title to rise to fame with astounding speed. 13. Stellar Blade (2024)
Action Adventure | Metacritic Score: 81

Image via Shift Up
Shift Up’s take on the story of Genesis is an excellent showcase of the PS5’s visual capabilities while also doubling up as a Soulslike adventure for the ages. Following the adventures of Eve as she attempts to make sense of an apocalyptic event that decimated Earth’s population, Stellar Blade packs narrative charm and a challenging gameplay loop into a complete package.
With secrets to uncover and incredibly designed bosses to take down, this is a game that must be played to be believed.
12. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (2019)
Action RPG | Metacritic Score: 90

Image via FromSoftware
Sekiro brings an anime-like quality to its take on feudal Japan with a story that is both poignant and explosive in equal measure. Its unrelenting pace is a masterclass in sword-based combat, an interesting diversion from the Soulslike formula that is focused on aggression and wearing down your enemies with relentless attacks and perfectly timed parries.
It is an experience that no other title has come close to imitating despite several worthy entries making an attempt to emulate its frenetic combat and incredible world design.
11. Black Myth: Wukong (2024)
Action RPG | Metacritic Score: 81

Image via Game Science
Based on the Chinese philosophical novel Journey to the West, Black Myth: Wukong takes the legend of the Monkey King to new heights in a title that sees you take on the role of the Destined One, exploring a gorgeously rendered world while taking on hordes of enemies with your trusty quarterstaff.
With an excellent story and supporting cast backing up its excellent gameplay loop, this Soulslike deserves all of the praise that was heaped on it when it was released and is certainly a great option for PS5 players looking to scratch that Soulslike itch.
10. Returnal (2021)
Action/Roguelike | Metacritic Score: 86

Image via Sony Interactive Entertainment
Returnal is an excellent modern roguelike. The challenging gameplay and environment have a beautiful design and feel to it. It’s all wonderfully stunning (even if occasionally a little depressing). The developers did an excellent job with accessibility design – with the tactile feedback sending the rain of Atropos to your fingertips through the controller. You can even witness the visual splendor of neon against a monochromatic environment.
In Returnal, the loop resets the moment you die. As you go through the different biomes and find new weaponry and alien technology, you’ll learn some of the secrets behind the loops. This makes it a roguelike that is true to the genre and tests the PlayStation 5’s potential.
9. Demon Souls (2020)
Action/Adventure/Open Zone | Metacritic Score: 92

Image via Bandai Namco
FromSoftware’s humble origins took a beautiful rendition. Demon Souls has been their first attempt at crafting a meticulous blend of one-of-its-kind gameplay and exploration. The 2009 cult favorite has been updated for the 4K era and is one of the PS5’s best-looking titles.
Many quality-of-life changes, as well as detailing, have been updated. Things such as motion capture, texturing, and music are all brand-new. While the original mechanics and charm of its storytelling have been well-preserved, there have also been some adjustments made. This includes new items, armor, an arsenal, and a reduced quantity of healing grass you can carry. Along with this, new consumable ‘Grains’ provide benefits while exploring.
8. Cyberpunk 2077 (2020)
Action/Adventure/RPG/Open World | Metacritic Score: 75

Image via CD Projekt
In its current state, Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the best RPGs ever made. The game made it through multiple patches and bug fixes to reconcile from its initial launch. Thanks to the PS5’s hardware capabilities, Night City has never looked so breathtaking.
Cyberpunk 2077 tells the tale of V – a protagonist with much ambition. You’ll hang out with drug lords, street brawlers, corporate sociopaths, and impressive AI. With multiple dialogue options and life paths, you’ll shape V’s destiny as the game unfolds. The playstyle has solid variety, too – a stealthy samurai, a guns’ blazing tank, a compelling netrunner… who do you wish to be? We’re sure there are more than 100s of hours worth of content waiting for you in Cyberpunk 2077.
7. Elden Ring (2022)
Action/Adventure/Open World/RPG | Metacritic Score: 96

Image via Bandai Namco
Elden Ring is the perfect entry for those who have never touched a FromSoftware game. And for age-old fans, it’s an absolute treat.
We loved the combat from Sekiro. We adored the exploration in Bloodborne. We fell in love with Dark Soul’s storytelling. And somehow, Elden Ring tops all these games by cleverly blending in the most remarkable aspects of what worked well in FromSoftware’s previous games.
Elden Ring will have you explore a vast world of mysteries, surprises, and brutality. The punishment may feel less severe – thanks to brilliantly complimented co-op and friendly AI features. However, there’s no absolute linear progression to the game. You can explore as you wish and brave uncharted territories as you like. Elden Ring is nothing short of a masterpiece.
6. Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018)
Action/Adventure/Open World | Metacritic Score: 97

Image via Rockstar Games
Many consider Red Dead Redemption 2 one of the best video games ever. Rockstar’s magnum opus is a technical marvel and the benchmark for open-world storytelling in video games. RDR2’s world sprawls over a giant landscape covering every weather condition, wildlife, and terrain you can imagine. The PlayStation 5’s ability to capture all of it is truly remarkable.
The trees, wildlife around you, and NPCs that have routines – every aspect of this world feels alive. This is something that makes RDR2 a brilliant open-world game.
The game explores the character motivations of people who matter to the game’s larger narrative and little side-quests that may seem less important. The characters will remain in your memories long after you’re done interacting with them. Even though their trajectories are predetermined, Arthur Morgan, John Marsten, Sadie, Dutch, and other colorful individuals have complicated dynamics that are constantly shifting and changing.
5. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015)
Action/Adventure/RPG/Open World | Metacritic Score: 94

Image via CD Projekt
Geralt’s monster-slaying journey takes new heights on modern consoles. Compared to the PS4 version, starting up the new rendition of the game is like starting a brand-new adventure.
The game runs in performance mode at 60 frames per second (60FPS) with upscaling to 4K resolution, and it looks lavish while performing reliably and smoothly.
You’re in for a massive treat if you’re unfamiliar with the game. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt follows Geralt’s quest for someone unique to the overarching narrative. You’ll begin his story with his tutor Vesemir, brushing off monster-hunting skills (which may or may not help in battling humans). The lengthy, twisting plot takes several hours to complete, but it is brilliantly told and features many fascinating characters across the game world.
4. Last of Us Part 1 – Remake (2022)
Action/Adventure | Metacritic Score: 88

Image via PlayStation Studios
A story that has been told countless times. Yet, the Last of Us Part 1 remains evergreen in the history of video games. With PS5’s latest hardware, Naughty Dog claimed the potential to make their magnum opus shine even brighter.
With updated mechanics, enhanced controls, and completely new graphics, the remake of Joel and Ellie’s Adventure was created utilizing the studio’s most recent PS5 engine. If this is your first time playing The Last of Us, you’re in for an absolute treat. The show’s world and storytelling also carry over to the widespread adaption by HBO.

Action/Adventure/Open World | Metacritic Score: 87

Image via Sony Interactive Entertainment

The voice acting, gameplay, and exploration make Ghost of Tsushima’s world extremely seductive. As you learn the ways of the blade and tackle different enemy types, Ghost of Tsushima will remain in your heart for years to come.
PS5’s version includes DualSense features, gorgeous 4K graphics running at 60 FPS, and 3D Audio compatibility. The Iki Island extension is a brilliant new side story set in a different location. You’ll discover more about the hero Jin, make new friends, and interact with some new animals. Yes, you can absolutely pet them.
3. God of War Ragnarok (2022)
Action/Adventure/Open Zone | Metacritic Score: 94

Image via PlayStation Studios
The series departed from its traditional beginnings with God of War (2018). We stepped into the world of Norse mythology, with Kratos going on a journey that would alter the workings of reality. More so, the trip was integral to his relationship with Atreus, as they faced a problematic evolution across different elements. Fatherhood, Gods, and Purpose, to name a few.
God of War Ragnarok is an excellent way to wrap up Kratos’ Norse narrative. You will reunite with Atreus, Mimir, and other friends. The combat mechanics have a remarkable progression, and the incredible exploration remains. The plot packs a powerful emotional punch, which includes some thoughtful puzzles.
