Destiny 2 has come a long way since its release, and along the way, many expansions added new campaigns and a variety of other content to the game. These expansions have their own stories, characters, and locations that are unique to them while also being faithful to the overarching lore of Destiny 2.
There are enough Destiny 2 expansions to have some great standouts like The Witch Queen and Forsaken but also a few lackluster ones like Shadowkeep. So, I will explore all the best and the worst ones by ranking all of Destiny 2’s expansions to date.

Destiny 2 Expansions Ranked
Expansions in Destiny 2 bring a lot of content like weapons, abilities, and even endgame content. They also feature their own stories and characters, so this ranking will be based on everything combined, not just the amount of content they have. Some expansions can have lesser content but still outshine others in terms of their story and narrative.
So, from its official launch until its latest expansion, The Final Shape, here are all Destiny 2 expansions ranked.
8. Shadowkeep
The most hated expansion among the Destiny 2 community is undoubtedly Shadowkeep. While it may have given us some sweet new weapons like Eriana’s Vow and Xenophage, Shadowkeep had a boring campaign. It didn’t really go anywhere other than just telling you that the Darkness is coming. The redeeming part of this expansion was the Garden of Salvation as endgame content, but other than that, it was a very lackluster update.
7. Curse of Osiris
While the community truly believes Shadowkeep is the worst expansion, Curse of Osiris, to me, is by far the most boring expansion. It had barely any new locations, good loot, and no endgame content, either. The only thing you can label as endgame content would be the Eater of Worlds raid, which was also terrible. Overall, it had a very underwhelming campaign and lacked the expected amount of content one would want from a Destiny 2 expansion.
6. War Mind
If you have used any IKELOS weapons, you should know they were first introduced in the Warmind expansion. Once considered the strongest, these weapons still hold high value in the eyes of many Destiny 2 players. But again, as was the issue with Shadowkeep, War Mind had a bad campaign that was very short and ended with a boring boss fight with Xol, the Worm God. Still, it did well in terms of the overall lore and the secret Escalation Protocol mission, and it also had a great new raid to play, which pushes this higher in rank than Shadowkeep.
5. Beyond Light
Beyond Light looked cool and flashy, but it turned out to be decent. Just the tiring process of unlocking all of Stasis was starting to feel like a job more than anything to me. Not to mention, Plunder took way more of my time than the actual campaign stuff in the expansion. This expansion was great in terms of loot, like Cloudstrike and its locations, but fell short in its plot. The best part about it was the addition of the Deep Stone Crypt raid, which many fans, including me, loved and enjoyed.

4. Lightfall
Here is when things start getting good. Lightfall came with high expectations from the entire D2 community, and while it didn’t quite hit the mark, it still stands as one of the better expansions. The Strand class introduced in this expansion is highly addicting and fun to play with. Using those abilities in its campaign missions that complimented them was one of the most fun moments I had in Destiny 2. Unfortunately, it’s a somewhat boring story that couldn’t keep me engaged enough; otherwise, this would be higher on the list.
3. The Final Shape
After ignoring the delay in launch, the server issues on launch, and the bunch of bugs that popped up, The Final Shape turned out to be pretty amazing. The narrative and story are by far one of the best, and it provides a great mix of boss fights with the cinematics, which makes you feel like your effort is actually making a mark. The new location, Pale Heart, is absolutely gorgeous and filled with verticality. There are tons of activities and events to do, and unlocking the Prismatic abilities is as fun to unlock as it is to use.
2. Forsaken
Forsaken is considered to be the best Destiny 2 expansion by many players. The campaign is incredibly well-crafted and fun throughout its missions. This expansion was also the first to introduce dungeons and one of the best raids in D2 called the Last Wish. It came with a ton of content, like a bunch of exotic weapons, new game modes like Gambit, and even re-introduced Special Weapons into the game. It stands as the most well-received Destiny 2 expansion alongside the next expansion in this Destiny 2 expansion rank list.
1. The Witch Queen
While Forsaken is one of the best, it comes close to competing with The Witch Queen, my favorite Destiny 2 expansion. This update gave us a whole new sub-class revamp and started the trend. I like games being difficult, and this expansion introduced the Legendary difficulty to its campaign, which made the already great campaign story and missions even more amazing. It also came with great endgame content like the Vow of the Disciple and even introduced the weapon crafting system. The Witch Queen is the most fun I have had playing Destiny 2 since its launch.
