We have Indie in the title, but we’re being pretty loose with the word because Indie is a broad term. We’ve heard so many definitions for it that we’re just sticking to games made by a small group or team of people that a huge publisher doesn’t back. Below, you’ll see five that we’re really looking forward to.
Indie Games We Can’t Wait For
Sunkissed City
This one will be surprising for many people, but we have Sunkissed City here because it is being made by a developer who helped a lot with Stardew Valley. It looks a lot like Stardew Valley but has a cool twist. You build your ideal life on a sunny island with beautiful nature and clear blue waters. But it’s not all relaxation; you have to manage resources, grow crops, and make special items to do well in this tropical paradise.
Making friends is important – get to know quirky islanders, learn their stories, and maybe even find love under the palm trees. Sunkissed City offers a fun mix of managing things, making friends, and a stunning island, making it a great game for anyone who wants a chill yet interesting experience. We really think this one will be a new huge thing to take over when it comes.
Pax Augusta
Pax Augusta is perfect not only for those who love games like this but also for history buffs. The developer, Roger Gassmann, is unparalleled in his dedication to historical accuracy. He’s traveled to the locations himself and has done more than you’d expect from a team of a dozen historians. Pax Augusta lets you oversee Roman history by guiding a new city to greatness.
You’ll start from a small town, plan your growth, build famous buildings like baths and coliseums, and take care of your people’s needs. But becoming powerful won’t be easy. You’ll deal with political plots, make friends, and protect your city from barbarian attacks to make sure it stays strong. Pax Augusta gives you a detailed city-building adventure with a historical twist. You’ll get to make smart choices that will decide the future of your Roman Empire.
Might of Merchants
Might of Merchants, inspired by The Guild, you get to run your own growing trading company. You’ll plan how to make money, travel busy trade paths, and gather lots of riches. The market can be unpredictable. You’ll need to control how much you buy and sell, outsmart your competition by negotiating well, and survive tough times in the economy to become the best trader around.
What makes most people love this game is the art style, which the developer, Hannes Breuer, was kind enough to share with everyone in his Canvas of Kings Steam release. Not many developers would share such a unique style from a game that’s already looking great. Might of Merchants offers an exciting mix of handling resources, making important choices, and dealing with the competitive world of trade. It’s great for anyone who loves the excitement of chasing after money in tycoons.
Shrine’s Legacy
For people who love the old school, Shrine’s Legacy is calling out to you. The game is highly anticipated because of its style, which brings both love and nostalgia. Adventure in a huge, mysterious world full of old secrets and forgotten dungeons.
Learn different ways to fight, use powerful ancient objects, and uncover the truth about a legendary shrine. You can go anywhere in the world, explore big landscapes, find hidden treasures, and face tough enemies in exciting battles. Shrine’s Legacy offers a fun action adventure with an amazing world to explore, which is great for players who like both fighting and discovering new things.
Frostpunk 2
Frostpunk 2 is why we had the stipulation above. We loved the developer for Indika and were huge fans of the original Frostpunk. There’s no doubt that this developer is going places. Frostpunk 2 is the long-awaited follow-up to the original game, set in a freezing world.
There are even tougher conditions as you guide a desperate society trying to survive in a never-ending winter. Leading becomes even harder, making difficult moral decisions, carefully handling resources, and ensuring your people stay determined. Frostpunk 2 offers a tougher and more detailed experience than the first game, pushing players to their limits as they battle the constant cold.
