Back in 2014, an indie game called Lisa: The Painful made its way to PC. It’s a quirky horror RPG sidescroller that tells a story of a miserable and broken man. With Lisa: Definitive Edition, the developer has remastered both Lisa: The Painful and Lisa: The Joyful, and it’s all set to make its appearance on modern consoles.
The Lisa games feature choice-based narratives with deeper themes like morality, inhumanity and a questionable sense of humor. They extensively borrow from Earthbound, right down to the visual aesthetic and the humor that is added to the story. These video games’ narratives are extremely sinister and upsetting. The welfare of your party members will be directly impacted by the decisions you are obliged to make.
Lisa: Definitive Edition release date, price and platforms
The release date for the Definitive Edition is July 18. The game will arrive on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
The digital version of the Lisa: The Painful – Definitive Edition will be available for $19.99. The digital version of Lisa: The Joyful – Definitive Edition is priced at $9.99 and the bundled version titled Lisa: Definitive Edition will be available for $24.99.
Lisa: Definitive Edition introduces a number of additional ‘modern’ features, including HD visuals, a revamped user interface, and 120 FPS for PC and next-generation consoles. There are new storylines and narrative endings, a ‘Painless’ (story) mode, a music player with more than 20 new songs, new foes, and new bosses, among other things in terms of content.
Lisa: Definitive Edition gameplay and story
The first of the two side-scrolling RPGs is called Lisa: The Painful. The game introduces you to a post-apocalyptic world where nothing is as lovely and humorous as it first appears. You’ll make difficult decisions that will have an ongoing impact on your gameplay. More often than not, you’ll even make sacrifices to keep your party members alive. You could have to take a beating, lose a limb, or go through unspeakable suffering for them. Survival in this harsh society depends on egotism and heartlessness.
The intriguing conclusion to the first release came with Lisa: The Joyful, which originally was released as a DLC. In this part, you take on Buddy’s role as you set out on a mission to make the world pay for its injustice. You’ll solve the mysteries around Olathe, learn more about your own family, and encounter creatures and others who want to use their position of power to their advantage along the way. Despite the fact that everyone is trying to harm you, you are adamant about reclaiming your rights.
