Bethesda director Todd Howard elaborated on Starfield romance options during his appearance on a recent episode of Kinda Funny Xcast to answer fan questions. He discussed the possible romance options available for players in the upcoming massive open-world spacefaring RPG.
Who could be the potential Starfield romance options?
Based on the interview, it seems like the romance options in Starfield will be limited to four key characters. All of these four characters will be from the Constellation faction. They will be the only ones for whom Bethesda team has developed full quest lines regarding romantic engagement. As described by Howard,
“So we have a number of companions, but for them we go… I won’t say super-complex-romantic, but more complex than we’ve had in terms of not just some, you know, state of they like you or they don’t like you – but they can be in love with you and dislike something you did, and be pissed at you temporarily – and then come back to loving you(.) As opposed to just drifting out of that (romantic) status you’re in a temporary “I don’t like what you did” state.”
These relationships are supposed to be more complicated and nuanced than the romance options in any prior Bethesda RPGs. Bethesda, this time with Starfield, has developed quests specifically to address romantic relationships. These quests will not only have a significant impact on your gameplay decisions, but also will tangibly alter your chosen companion’s storyline.

While Howard did not disclose the identity of the four possible romanceable companions in Starfield, the following characters are already confirmed to be a part of the Constellation faction:
- Barret
- Noel
- Sarah Morgan
- Sam Coe
- Vlad
- Matteo
- Walter
- Vasco
In various gameplay footage videos and trailers, we have seen several glimpses of Barret and Sarah Morgan. Now it remains to be seen, which of them are the final four romanceable NPCs in Starfield.
Can you romance Sarah Morgan in Starfield?
Sarah Morgan has appeared many times in the promotional videos. She is the highest-ranking officer in the Constellation who will act as a guide in the organization. She is expected to be the primary contact of the player in the game and players are likely to see her often in the main storyline of the game. While we are lacking any official confirmation whether players can form a romantic relationship with her, it’s highly possible considering her role in the game.
