Fans of Rocksteady Studios have been eagerly anticipating the release of its upcoming game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, since they first announced it in 2020. However, the game has faced several setbacks and delays, leaving players wondering when to expect to get their hands on it.
Fortunately, the developers did give us an updated release date for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. According to an April post on the game’s official Twitter handle, the game will launch on February 2, 2024.
Rocksteady Studios gained widespread acclaim for their innovative action beat-em-up gameplay with the Batman: Arkham series. Naturally, players were excited to see what they had in store for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. However-
The negative reception
In February 2023, Rocksteady Games showcased a full gameplay demonstration of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League during the PlayStation State of Play. While the game looked fun and colorful, it did not seem to have the same level of polish as previous games from the developer. As such, many players criticized it and even called it an inferior version of the ten-year-old game Sunset Overdrive.
Some players have expressed concerns that the game’s live-service model may force them to spend countless hours for minimal rewards, as seen in the Avengers game. This model also requires players to remain connected to the internet in order to play the game. Others have stated that they are more excited about the cutscenes than the game itself.
Sudden delay
Initially slated for release in 2023, Rocksteady Studios recently confirmed that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is now delayed until early 2024. They stated they are taking the extra time to polish the game and make it even better. Still, most players believe the delay is likely only related to negative reception and backlash.
On Suicide Squad…
1) Nine months is not enough time to completely change the nature of a game
2) The team was told that the delay was for polish and not related to the February gameplay showcase
3) Lots of other factors can affect release timing (like the console makers)— Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier) April 13, 2023
Journalist Jason Schreier has recently revealed that Rocksteady Studios is not planning to change the game’s nature significantly. He tweeted,
Nine months is not enough time to completely change the nature of a game.
The game’s nine-month delay means Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is now scheduled to release on February 2, 2024, but this date is not set in stone as further delays cannot be ruled out.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will feature iconic characters from Suicide Squad and the Justice League. Moreover, it will showcase Kevin Conroy’s last major performance as Batman. As such, fans eagerly await how Rocksteady will bring these characters together in a unique and exciting storyline.
Will the game be fun to play?
Despite the negative reception, the gameplay for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League looks promising. Players can customize their weapons and master unique skills for each playable character, including Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark. The game offers a “genre-bending action-adventure” experience and allows players to explore the iconic Metropolis, which has never looked as good.
Gameplay-wise, Suicide Squad’s single-player mode allows players to switch between characters simultaneously while AI controls the other characters. Meanwhile, the multiplayer mode offers four-player cooperative gameplay, adding an exciting & fun dimension to the game. Still, compared to the gruesome gameplay of the Batman: Arkham games, Suicide Squad’s gameplay does look a bit less explosive and punchy, which may be disappointing to some players.
