The release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows comes with many different settings and difficulty options for players to use. Some of these options, including Immersive Mode, Canon Mode, and Guided Exploration, can be quite confusing for both newcomers and veterans alike. Here are the best difficulty settings and options for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Best Difficulty Settings for Assassin’s Creed Shadows

When it comes to difficulty settings, you have four possible options: Story, Forgiving, Normal, and Expert. The best difficulty setting for you will come down to personal preference. That said, for most players, I suggest Normal as the best difficulty option. This is the great starting point for both newcomers and veterans to this series alike.
Thankfully, if Normal isn’t the best difficulty setting for you in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you can change it anytime in the options, so feel free to make the game harder or easier depending on your experience.
How Immersive Mode Works

Immersive Mode makes the overall experience in Assassin’s Creed Shadows more historically accurate. Whenever someone speaks in the game, that person speaks with the actual language they would’ve used. For instance, the Portuguese will speak in Portuguese, Japanese characters will use Japanese, and so on.
So long as you don’t struggle with reading subtitles in games, this is one of the best settings to turn on. Otherwise, you can skip it.
How Canon Mode Works

It is possible to make various story decisions and dialogue options in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Canon Mode, however, alleviates all of that player choice. I don’t, personally, recommend this option. After all, you can still pick the canonical option, if you like. But if you turn this setting off, you miss out completely on being able to make the choices you want.
I am also not sure how this affects romance since that is player-driven, which is a heavy knock against Canon Mode. recommend players to play the first time through without Canon Mode. Then, on a second playthrough, you can turn on this setting.
How Guided Exploration Works

Guided Exploration is the one setting I recommend everyone to turn off, if possible, in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Sure, this mode does make the world of feudal Japan much easier to navigate. However, it does so at the cost of some trophies and achievements being able to be unlocked. If you care about achievements even in the slightest, Guided Exploration will not be your friend in this game.
