One of the questions flooding the Steam and Reddit forums is about controller support for R.E.P.O. Can you play the game with a controller of your choosing? While there is a possibility of making it work, it’s not 100% certain it will work for everyone. This guide will go through the ways you can set up a controller for the R.E.P.O.
Controller Support for R.E.P.O
The current Early Access version of the game doesn’t officially support a controller, but the full release might open the book for support. Since officially the support is out of question, how about the alternative?
We must manually input the keys for the game to believe the controller is a keyboard. Here we will take a look at some of the ways to set up the controller for R.E.P.O:
Using Steam Controller Manager

Process 1 will feature Steam’s Controller Manager to map the controls to work in our favor.
- Open Steam, click on Steam on the top left of the application.
- Choose Setting, then go over to the Controller section.
- Enable Steam Input for Xbox Controllers/ Switch Pro Controllers/ Generic Controllers.
- Now go to R.E.P.O on your Steam Library, and choose the Controller icon next to the Play Button.
Note: You will not see the controller icon if the computer is not connected to any controller.
- Enable Steam Input, click on the Gamepad to set up your controller keys.

Other ways to set up the buttons for the controller
Some players have tried to use the controller on R.E.P.O but didn’t get any controller prompt on the screen. Here, people resorted to using reWASD software to edit the keys to use the controller. The software helps remap controllers for Xbox, PlayStation, and many more. Steam user DJ35927975 has created a layout that works with the game.
If it didn’t work out for you, then waiting for the official support for the controller might be a better choice.
