The Finals is a graphically demanding game with incredibly realistic destruction physics. For the same reasons, Embark Studios decided to only release it on current-gen consoles since the older gen couldn’t possibly handle it.
So, while The Finals running on a handheld like the Steam Deck may seem impossible, that isn’t the case.
Can Steam Deck Run The Finals?
Yes, after the latest Proton Experimental update, The Finals is now playable on the Steam Deck. To do this, switch the compatibility to Proton Experimental within the game properties. While it isn’t the smoothest experience, it gives a decent 45 FPS which is still more than expected.
The game will automatically run at the lowest possible settings and also make the most use of AMD FSR to boost performance. Running the game on the Quality setting may look good, but from my experience, you should keep it on Balanced for a smoother and more stable gameplay.
This is a no-brainer for a competitive game like The Finals where performance is more important than visual appeal. However, you will still be at a disadvantage overall since console players get to play the game at a highly stable 60 FPS.
Before the new update, the game wouldn’t run on Steam Deck due to anti-cheat. It is still very much possible that the game might recognize using the Steam Deck as a cheat and it might ban you.
