The upcoming arena shooter XDefiant is set to launch on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5. While the game was originally also planned for older-gen consoles, it was later scrapped as the game was developed since it kept requiring more powerful hardware.
However, players are concerned that this next-gen-only situation might reduce the game’s player base, negatively affecting matchmaking. So the question is, does XDefiant have crossplay, or will players on each platform be isolated in their own lobbies? Here is everything you need to know.
Does XDefiant have Crossplay between all Platforms?
Yes, XDefiant will have crossplay between PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. Crossplay will be enabled by default, and players on any of those platforms will be able to party up with any player regardless of their platform.
However, XDefiant also has input-based matchmaking to ensure everyone is playing on a fair level. This means that players playing on a controller will not be matched with players playing on mouse & keyboard and vice versa. We have yet to see how the game handles a situation where a party consists of players playing on both input types.

Apart from that, all game modes in XDefiant will be played in crossplay lobbies, including the ranked mode set to launch with Season 1. However, whenever crossplay is involved in a game, there are numerous complaints from both controller and keyboard players about it being unfair in some way or another.
The input advantage of crossplay has always been a hot topic among CoD players. So it’s nice to see that the developers of XDefiant are implementing input-based matchmaking at launch itself to make crossplay a fair and enjoyable experience, something that CoD has yet to do.
