There are many obstructions found in the Underdark that will halt your progress in Baldur’s Gate 3. Perhaps the most frustrating one out of all of them is the Arcane Turrets in and around the Arcane Tower. They do a considerable amount of damage to your party and have only a few weaknesses to exploit. However, there are certain ways to get past them, which you can view in the guide below.
Getting Past The Arcane Turrets In Baldur’s Gate 3
There are a few reasons to enter the Arcane Tower in BG3, including a quest or two, but there are also quite a few useful items you can find that will help you on your journey. During your first visit to the tower, you likely got immediately warded off by the Arcane Turrets that don’t seem to miss any of their shots.
Fortunately, there are two effective ways to defeat the Arcane Turrets:
- Using specific Spells
- Infiltrate the Arcane Tower and disable them from the inside

Below, we’ll go more in-depth at using these methods to your advantage so you can finally get around those pesky turrets.
Using Spells
Using spells is the primary way to decrease the HP of the Turrets. Lightning Damage does twice the amount of damage as regular spells so that will be quite effective to deal with the turrets. Here is a list of spells that deal Lightning Damage:
- Chromatic Orb
- Arrow of Lightning
- Breath weapon of a Blue Dragonborn
- Lightning Bolt
- The Shocking Hands cantrip
- Witch Bolt spell
The Arcane Turrets also don’t resist Bludgeoning or Radiant Damage, so if you do not have any Lightning spells in your arsenal, these are the way to go. If you do not have any of these in your arsenal, then we recommend infiltrating deeper into the Arcane Tower to disable these Turrets manually.
Infiltrating The Tower And Disabling The Turrets From The Inside
Before you begin this operation, ensure that you have the Feather Fall spell or scroll so that you don’t take fall damage from jumping down certain obstacles. These obstacles are required to go through if you want to disable the turrets from the tower itself. Follow these steps to disable the Arcane Turrets:
- Find a way to the west side of the building and jump down to the garden by using the mushrooms on the cliffs. You won’t take damage due to Feather Fall here.
- There will be a Sussur Tree, which is bright blue and glows. Acquire the Sussur Bloom from it and go through the Garden Door in the back of the tower to find yourself on the lowest floor of the Tower.
- Inside the room, there is a generator. Interact with it and place the Sussur Bloom inside, which is going to disable the Turrets and activate the lighting for the tower. This will also provide you with elevator access to the topmost floor of the tower.
If you manually disable the Arcane Turrets, they’ll stay that way unless you interact with the tower generator again. There are also other Sussur Blooms around the Underdark if you lost the one near the Arcane Tower. Whether you take this route or simply damage them until their HP runs out, the turrets should no longer be an issue in BG3.
