Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the first game in a long time in this series to feature two different heroes to play as. Players are able to play as both Naoe and Yasuke, with the former representing the classic assassin side and Yasuke being the more brutish, tanky samurai. Since there are two heroes, it is paramount players know how to change between Naoe and Yasuke in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
How to Change Between Naoe and Yasuke in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
You can change between Naoe and Yasuke in Assassin’s Creed Shadows using three different ways: at certain story beat moments, by opening up the inventory menu and switching there, or by fast traveling on the world map. All of these options will work, but you must progress far enough into the main story first where you can play as both characters anytime. This can take anywhere from 5-10 hours of playtime.
Use the Inventory Menu to Switch
The story beat changes are pretty self-explanatory. For instance, if you are taking on a major mission to assassinate someone, the game will often give you the option to change between Naoe and Yasuke. Outside of that, what you can do is open up the main menu and go to the inventory section.
It is here that you can hold down a specific button to switch to the other hero. If you are like me on controller, you will want to hold down the X button for the Xbox players or Square button for the PlayStation users. Note that this only works if you are currently not being hunted or seen by enemies.

Use the World Map to Switch
The other major way to change between Naoe and Yasuke in Assassin’s Creed Shadows is to use the world map. You can tab over to the world map from the same main menu as the inventory screen. Then what you want to do is select any fast travel point, such as a viewpoint. You can either fast travel there as your current hero, like for instance Naoe, or switch to Yasuke upon arrival.
This is one of the smoothest ways to kill two birds with one stone: be able to travel instantly where you need to go and play as the character you need to be.
