Optional quests can keep you busy playing Dragon’s Dogma 2 for hours on end, since they offer such appealing rewards and add depth to the sprawling world. Many of the quests relate to one another in some way, by introducing important areas or allowing you to find useful items. Such is the case with the Tolled to Rest quest.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 – How to Clear Tolled to Rest
The Tolled to Rest quest offers some helpful rewards when you clear it, and introduces you to a character named Oskar. It’s a fairly simple quest, as these things go. You should attempt it once your characters have reached level 15 or so, provided you have a solid party. To clear Tolled to Rest, you must escort Oskar past some skeletons to reach a high pedestal and ring a bell.
The Tolled to Rest quest mostly plays out within an area known as the Ancient Battleground. That battleground is located northeast of Checkpoint Rest Town. From the town, head north and follow a ravine as it descends toward lower ground. Follow the main trail northeast from the base of that ravine, and eventually you will reach a ballista on a high ledge. You find yourself overlooking a battle between a dragon and a cyclops.

Descend from the high ledge while steering as wide as possible of the dragon. You’re likely nowhere near ready to fight it at this point, and you don’t need to. Continue east along the grasslands to reach a large opening in a stone wall. As you start through it, you should meet a magic user named Oskar. He requests that you escort him to a distant hillside. Accept his request, finally initiating the quest.
Let Oskar lead you back the way you came. He has a pretty good idea of the best path to follow, and leads you up to the high ground where you saw the ballista. Beyond there, he guides you through a ruin of some sort. Here, you face multiple groups of skeleton enemies, first in one brick area, then in another. They shouldn’t pose a threat to a reasonably powerful party. Take them out quickly and make sure to break apart their skulls, lest they come back from the dead. Again.
When Oskar finally leads you to the high ground, a brief conversation follows. Then he rings the bell. You’ve now completed the quest, and you receive a reward of 3000 XP, 9000 G, and the Ancient Battleground Key. Before you leave, check the area at the base of the bell for the Nation’s Death Knell grimoire. There’s also a chest in the corner, which you can open for the Makeshift Vault Key. That’s a lot of loot for a pretty simple quest!
