Numerous quests you undertake in Dragon’s Dogma 2 relate to weaponry, but many of them are relatively brief. As you advance through the campaign, you’ll find exceptions to that rule. For instance, there is the Dulled Steel, Cold Forge side quest, which finds you restoring the luster to a ceremonial blade.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 – How to complete Dulled Steel, Cold Forge
You can activate Dulled Steel, Cold Forge starting fairly early in the game. Your chore is to fix up a ceremonial weapon called the Regalia Sword, which currently is in a dulled state because Disa doesn’t think much of anything that runs counter to her personal plans for the kingdom. To complete Dulled Steel, Cold Forge, you’ll have to take the weapon to Brokkr, and then supply 15 or more shards of glimmrcoal.
To start the quest, head to the Noble Quarter in Vernworth. You need to have completed a few story quests, up through Disa’s Plot. Then you should have rested at an inn, or at your house in Vernworth, if you have purchased it. With those conditions met, talk to the guards in the courtyard area that leads to the front doors of Vernworth Castle. One soldier will lead you off into the bushes to present you with the sword, which he trusts you to get repaired.

Take the sword to the local blacksmith, Roderick. He confesses to not having the skill to repair it, and suggests you visit Brokkr. That second blacksmith resides in Battahl, which you likely won’t reach until the game’s halfway point or thereabouts. Travel to Battahl and meet Brokker at his shop. The game marks its location on your map if you have the quest active. You may have a pawn who will guide you. Brokkr’s Smithy is along the southwest edge of the city.
At the shop, meet Brokkr and his assistant, Sara. Brokkr refuses to help, but his apprentice is more supportive. She tells you to retrieve 15 glimmercoal from a nearby cave in Digger’s Ruins (see the above map screenshot). Her theory is that if you bring back the uncommon fuel and Brokkr can fire up his forge again, he’ll be ready to return to work.
Take the short trek southwest from the village to reach the cave along the edge of Digger’s Ruins. It’s not an especially dangerous hike. The cave isn’t all that dangerous, either. But you should still make sure you have a capable party assembled, and possibly some healing items. You’ll encounter the usual local mobs along the way, and some slime-type enemies in the cave.
Inside the cave, look for glowing points of light. You’ll probably find plenty of smaller glowing areas, but you want the larger green ones. They look a bit like flickering holiday lights. Grab them until you have enough glimmercoal. Note that there are numerous other materials in the area. Glymercole is spelled similarly, but it doesn’t suit your purposes. I handed off any of that lesser material that I collected to my pawns, so I didn’t have to worry about becoming over-encumbered myself.
The cave is fairly big. You don’t have to explore its dangerous side passage, though. Stick to the main chamber not far from the entrance. Check along its edges on the upper and lower levels to find all 15 glimmercoal. You shouldn’t have to fight many enemies in the process. Then, when you have enough of the material, return to Sara and Brokkr. A scene follows, wherein Sara offers to take the sword. You should entrust the sword to her. Doing so completes the quest and you receive 2800 XP and 12000 G for your trouble. You also activate a follow-up quest called Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge.
