Building a sustainable settlement that keeps everyone happy and satisfied isn’t an easy task in Manor Lords. Even if all the other needs are met, your fellow citizens are still going to want to sit down and have some good old Ale after a hard day’s work.
Making a Tavern is easy but I could not understand how to make it produce Ale, as the game doesn’t really explain it. After taking the time, though, I managed to figure it out. Here is how you can start treating your citizens with Ale in Manor Lords.

Make Ale for the Tavern in Manor Lords
The Tavern in Manor Lords can be provided with Ale by building the Brewery Extention on a Level 2 Burage Plot (House) that is big enough to support an extension. The Brewery will make Ale using Malt which comes from refining Barley at the Malthouse.
You should build at least two or three Brewary Extensions to support a constant supply of Ale to a Tavern. Making the Brewary extension is only the easy part of it however, the hard part is sourcing Malt.
Getting Malt in Manor Lords
Farming Barley
Malt can be acquired in multiple different ways, the most reliable and constant source would be to have it produced by your own settlement. To do that, you will need to build the following structures:
- Farmhouse
- Field with Barley as its crop
- Malthouse
Once you have this set up, you will have Barley by the end of the year which you can then refine into Malt using the Malthouse. However, you will likely require two different fields because when I tried to grow only Barley in one field, the fertility of it dropped fast.
So if you want to produce Malt all year round, you will need two fields that rotate Barley as their crop every other year so that its fertility is maintained ensuring you get a good yield by the end of the year. This can be very difficult to sustain in the early game and I would only recommend you do this method when your settlement is bigger.
Importing Malt or Barley
You can import Malt or Barley in Manor Lords via the Trading Post after establishing a trading route for it. This is by far the easiest method, especially for early-game settlements. You can either import Barley and have a Malthouse in your settlement refining it into Malt or you can directly import Malt itself, although at a higher price.
To make sure you can constantly import Malt/Barley, I recommend that you first establish an export of any given material so that you can get a passive income of Regional Wealth which is then used to buy and import Malt/Barley. I chose to export Planks as they are easy to produce in big numbers, sell for a decent value, and can be produced efficiently and easily in the early game itself.
