Grounded 2 is Obsidian’s follow-up to its hit game about backyard survival, expanding on the original game’s tiny champions versus big bugs approach. The sequel enters Early Access/Game Preview on July 29, 2025, and introduces a larger scale version of Brookhollow Park and all-new mounts, crafting upgrades, along with extending the story further.
At the moment, the big question is will PS players be able to get in on the action at launch. Here is what we know so far.
Grounded 2 – Is it on PS5?

As of its Early Access release, Grounded 2 is not available on PS5. The July 29 launch is limited to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Windows PC, and Steam. Sony’s console won’t be part of this first phase, meaning PlayStation users will need to wait for any future announcements.

However, Obsidian hasn’t ruled out a broader release. In an interview, Executive Producer Marcus Morgan noted that the original Grounded eventually came to PlayStation and Switch after its Xbox debut, hinting that a similar approach could happen for Grounded 2. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but the possibility is open.
Is Grounded 2 going to early access on PlayStation 5?
No — the early access period is exclusive to Xbox and PC platforms. Xbox players can access it via Game Preview, while Steam users get it through Early Access. Both versions begin on July 29, 2025, and will receive content updates over time as Obsidian refines the game.
PS5 is not included in this rollout, so players on that platform won’t be able to join until after early access concludes, assuming a PS5 port is confirmed later.

When is Grounded 2 releasing on PlayStation?
No release date for a PS5 version of Grounded 2 is currently known. Since there is a lot of time passed between the release of original game and the PS version, it would take a while based on that time. Grounded spent a little over two years in early access, with the PS version coming a little over 18 months after that. If the game follows the same cycle, PS5 players might be looking at a 2027–2028 window. But take the date with a grain of salt.
That time frame should be a little clearer when we know what Obsidian is planning on doing when leaving Early Access, and until then, PS5 users should expect updates once the Xbox and PC versions have completed their preview time.
