SteamWorld Build follows a long line of games released on Mac and Linux. Many fans of the series have been used to playing the series on any operating system, and the question arises if you still can. Below, we’ll let you know if SteamWorld Build is coming to Mac or Linux.
Can I Play SteamWorld Build on Mac?
SteamWorld Build will not be on Mac upon release. According to a developer, “there are no plans to release on MAC or Linux at present.” This means it will be the first game in the series not to release outside of PC. A roadmap may come in time but the quote makes it sound like there are no intentions to move the game outside of PC.
Can I Play SteamWorld Build on Linux?
SteamWorld Build will not be available on Linux upon release. Linux users will have to either use their skills to emulate a PC operating system or go without playing the game. Linux users do have an advantage over MacOS users because they can emulate any operating system they want if they have the knowledge.
You can look at YouTube videos on the subject if you want to try this out. Otherwise, you can check the system requirements and see if a spare PC you may have is compatible with the game. Just make sure you meet the system requirements.
The developer did say that they would update the fanbase if they hear any more about the game releasing outside of PC. The team would need to finish the game and see the appeal from outside of the PC operating system for them to want to add compatibility in. There are many platforms the game is releasing on, so it may be a lot of work to make sure they all work. Adding something like MacOS and Linux may be a bit of a strain on the team.
