While SteamWorld Build looks like it’s only for single players, there is always a chance that SteamWorld Build has multiplayer or co-op modes. SteamWorld Build, the latest installment in the beloved SteamWorld franchise, looks like a fun city builder and dungeon crawler.
Does SteamWorld Build Feature Co-Op or Multiplayer Gameplay?
There are no plans for multiplayer or co-op in SteamWorld Build. A developer confirmed this in a response to a post with the same question. They said:
“There are no plans for multiplayer at the moment, but if this changes we will let everyone know.”
This decision is likely due to the complexity of adding multiplayer or co-op to a game like SteamWorld Build. The game’s focus on resource management and base building would make it difficult to balance multiplayer gameplay, and there would also be significant technical challenges to overcome.
While some fans may be disappointed by not being able to play with friends but it’s important to remember that SteamWorld Build is still a single-player game at heart. The game already has an antagonist in the dungeon crawling feature, and having another player with their own town doesn’t seem like the best idea. This may change after release, just make sure you meet the system requirements.
In the case mentioned above, you’d just be playing the same game separately. If you tried to make players run the same town, you’d have issues with resource management and the game would be made more challenging for no reason. If you took out the dungeon crawler then you’d ruin the game by removing one of its appeals.
In this case, we’re not sure how they could add multiplayer or co-op. The game seems to be made specifically for just one person to play at a time. Still, there is always a chance, but the developer made sure that they would let their fans know if that situation ever appeared.
