Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) takes place in a world where humanity has been wiped out by anomalous disasters that create dangerous zones known as Hollows. New Eridu is the last surviving city, but how much of New Eridu is in the open world in Zenless Zone Zero? Here is everything you need to know.
Does Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) have an Open World?
Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) is an action RPG dungeon crawler, not an open-world game. While it does have a smaller explorable hub world, the combat portion of ZZZ is divided into levels and chapters that you jump into with your select roster of Agents.
Even within the levels itself, there is no exploration beyond the occasional destructible items you can find in some places for bonus Denny. Its gameplay is mainly focused on its combat mechanics of using the right elements, executing perfect dodges and parries, and using your three agents in tandem.
When you are out of the Hollow in ZZZ, you can explore Sixth Street, which is the main hub location. It has all the main shops and your character’s home, as well as a video store you must manage. Exploring this hub world can sometimes give you small rewards for finding things like Lost Cargo and chatting up with a random citizen, but it isn’t required for progression.
There are other smaller locations you can visit as you progress through the game and unlock them, but there isn’t much to them in terms of exploration apart from the usual collectibles and non-combat side quests that love talking with NPCs to help them.
But this does not mean ZZZ is a bad game. I would recommend that you try it unless you are looking for an open-world experience. Many players are fatigued by the excessive number of open-world games, and Zenless Zone Zero brings a fresh change and proves that not everything needs to be open-world.
