The Parade Master boss is the first one you’ll encounter in Lies of P, but nothing about him is easy at this point in the game. This boss is quite tenacious and needless to say, will throw everything and the kitchen sink at you, which in this case seems to be some kind of a medieval gibbet. Taking on the Parade Master is no easy task and considering how poorly equipped you are at this point, the odds are already stacked against you.
Don’t let the billing frighten you though, there is always a way to take down such bosses.
Arming Pinocchio for the Lies of P Parade Master Boss
Since this is an early-game boss fight, there is not much at your disposal in terms of weaponry or armor. The best thing you can do at this point is to have the best equipment available which can be unlocked by earning Ergo. One of the best weapons you can find this early in your playthrough is the Greatsword of Fate. This heavy weapon has many uses, but for this fight, this will serve you well as your primary sword which can deal quite a bit of damage.
You don’t get too many chances to strike the Parade Master, so you’ll need to deal as much damage as possible each time you connect. While the Greatsword of Fate deals the most damage of all melee weapons early game, you’ll need to further galvanize your strikes to bring down the boss faster. The Electric Blitz Abrasive to this end is an excellent item that allows your weapon to deal additional lightning damage.
How to Defeat Parade Master Boss in Lies of P
As you approach the Parade Master in the circus, you’ll find him to be a hulking figure. But don’t let his imposing size fool you, he’s quite agile and can strike at close range in succession. In fact, one of the most dangerous attacks in his arsenal is one where he throws his entire body at you. Other modes of attack, when you begin your encounter, include punching you down and smashing with clasped hands. This if anything is the easier part of the Parade Master Boss fight where is most vulnerable.
You can either dodge these attacks or simply block them with proper timing. There is however a special attack where the Parade Master is engulfed in a reddish glow. This hand smash can’t be blocked conventionally and requires you to execute a perfect guard. Each time the Parade Master lands an attack he is left quite vulnerable which is your opening to strike as many times as possible and even cause him to stagger with a heavy attack. There is no specific weak point, so you can strike whichever part of his body you have access to.
Headless Parade Master Boss
While the first stage of this boss fight is fairly easy, it is a completely different ball game when the Parade Master’s health goes below 50%. This is when the already nightmarish boss becomes even more so as he literally loses his head in the battle. There is a powerful strike with the Gibbet before this happens which is best avoided.
The headless Parade Master boss is now armed with a powerful melee weapon of his own, his severed head mounted on his incredibly long top hat. Now the attacks become considerably more powerful and difficult to deal with. He also has a better range with his strikes and more variety. He can swing his head mace in both directions and even rush towards you while doing it. The glowing special attack is now galvanized with a more powerful strike with the mace.
The best course of option is to dodge each of his attacks and wait until you find an opening. Much like before, the headless Parade Master is most vulnerable after each of his strikes and that’s when you can land your attacks. He’s also prone to longer stagger times when you land heavy attacks. So you deal some additional damage with successive strikes when he is staggered. At this point, you can also land a special attack where Pinocchio performs a cinematic thrust like the ones in the Lord of the Rings movies.
Careful use of these maneuvers will help you defeat the Parade Master with very little trouble. Once you’ve defeated the first boss, you are rewarded with the Parade Leader’s Ergo which is worth 5000 ergo at the shop, and quartz which can be used to level up Pinocchio.
