In the upcoming Soulslike RPG Lies of P, quartz is an in-game currency to upgrade the game’s titular character. Quartz lets the player upgrade some of the protagonist’s core qualities to enable enhanced gameplay and offer new types of abilities. The quartz in Lies of P can be used creatively to enhance the character’s P-organ abilities and find a playstyle most preferable to the player.
What is P-organ and how it relates to Lies of P quartz
In Lies of P, players gain access to the protagonist’s heart, named ‘P-organ’ by the developers, and unlock access to skill and abilities upgradation. It functions like a skill tree with five layers dedicated to various aspects of the character’s combat and gameplay style.
According to the developers, P-organ is
‘a system that allows you to upgrade your character. Use Quartz to optimize P to your liking. Within the P-Organ, you can select which slots to unlock depending on your preference. Decrypting an entire group of slots will prompt a new set of special synergy effects.’
Currently, the developers have not disclosed much regarding the usage of quartz in the game. Some things uncovered by the Lies of P demo released on June 9 include information about the Phase 1 of the P-Organ. This was the only tier of upgrades made available to the players through the demo. Based on it, the P-Organ is made up of three distinct parts and Lies of P quartz are used to upgrade specific abilities, attack patterns, survival skills, and item enhancements in-game. Three parts of the P-organ are –
- Phase: A Phase is a combination of four groups. There are supposed to be a total of five phases on the P-Organ. Every new phase is expected to open for the players who successfully unlock two previous groups of the previous phase.
- Groups: A Group is the name for the individual nodes dedicated for upgradation within a phase by using quartz in Lies of P. Each group includes a specific number of slots, expected to fall under 2 and 4. When the player fills all of them, it will unlock that group’s next upgrade. Fully unlocking any two groups within a phase is expected to open up the next relevant phase.
- Slots: A Slot is the base of all P-Organ upgrades. Players can put an upgrade into a slot for the cost of one quartz in Lies of P. Slots can be filled with four different types of upgrades. Fill all the slots in one Group, and you will unlock that specific group’s major upgrade.

How to use quartz in Lies of P?
Players can use the Lies of P quartz that they gain through achieving certain gameplay milestones. Ability level upgrades in Lies of P include:
- Attack Type – Lets players use Lies of P quartz they have gained to enhance their combat style and unlock new moves and attack patterns. Some of the examples of attack type upgrades include enhanced enemy groggy time, enhanced fatal attacks, and enhanced attacks through fable arts.
- Survival Type – Lets players enhance their survival skills and can potentially impact HP and abilities cooldown time. These upgrades also allow players to dodge enemy attacks more effectively, take less damage while special attacks are discharged. It could also help with stealth elements and enhanced recovery.
- Ability Type – Lets players upgrade P’s various abilities. Players can customize P at their will, changing his body parts to best fit every individual player’s playstyle. These include enhanced weapons durability, lower recovery time, increased stamina, and enhanced fatal attack strengths.
- Item Type – Lets players enhance the abilities and effectiveness of various special items collected throughout the gameplay. These primarily focus on enhancing the slot capacities by allowing players to carry additional throwables or melee weapons and increasing slots of various consumables. This also helps increase Ergo, which is the in-game currency you get after killing an enemy and you can use it to upgrade weapons and armor.
