The Lightreaper is a unique colossal boss in Lords of Fallen whose story is unlike any other boss in the game. He is quite similar to a certain cursed witch king from another franchise both in form and lore. The Lightreaper is first introduced in Lord of the Fallen’s prologue and has a crucial role to play in the story. A servant of Adyr himself, this foe does the bidding of his master and will destroy all that gets in his way.
Mounted on his trusty steed, the three-headed Nazgul thing has access to seemingly unlimited power granted by Adyr himself and is a menace to deal with in battle. It is, therefore, quite shocking that the game unleashes this boss at the very onset of the gameplay. He is a boss to be defeated to progress in Lords of the Fallen, but you get multiple opportunities to do so throughout the story.
The Lightreaper is no ordinary foe even by Lords of the Fallen standards and dealing with him can be most tiring especially if this is your first Soulslike experience. So, here’s a walkthrough on all the things you need to know before facing and hopefully defeating the Lightreaper in Lords of the Fallen.

Lightreaper Encounters In Lords Of The Fallen
Including the prologue, there are a total of three times that the colossal boss can be encountered in Lords of the Fallen. Surprisingly enough, each time it is possible to defeat him, including during the first encounter in the prologue. Doing so obviously requires the kind of prowess bestowed upon Lords of Soulsborne games and beyond the abilities of mere mortals. But, if you are curious about the outcomes of defeating the colossal boss, here’s what you are missing out on.
Encounter | Outcomes |
First Encounter During Prologue | The Iron Wayfarer arrives in a cutscene and makes off with a vial of sorts he extracts from the Lightreaper’s corpse. After the cutscene, you get all the rewards from the boss fight. |
Second Encounter at Fitzroy’s Gorge | Once his health reaches 50%, he will climb back on his mount and teleport. If you die on the other hand before doing so, he will disappear anyway. |
Final Encounter | You have to defeat him to unlock the Hunt’s End achievement and rewards. After the boss fight you can progress further with the story. |
The first two encounter is scripted for you to lose to the Lightreaper. These encounters also serve the higher purpose of involving the Iron Wayfarer in the story who has a huge role to play later in the game. As far as the Lightreaper is concerned, his part in Lord of the Fallen ends with the third encounter where you have no other choice but to defeat him to proceed.

The Lightreaper’s Moveset & Our Recommended Defense Strategy
Move | Description | Defense Strategy |
Nazgul Fire | Move away from the line of sight of the Nazgul to avoid the attack | Dodge by running away from the line of fire. |
Nazgul Leap | The lightreaper commands his mount to take a leap which will do physical damage to the wayfarer. This is also a unidirectional attack | Move away from the line of sight of the Nazgul to avoid the attack |
Dual Sword fire slash | The Lightreaper performs an acrobatic backwards leap and slashes his swords together to unleash a fire blast in the direction he is facing. | Cannot be blocked. It is best to move away from the line of fire. |
Melee Thrust/Slash | Among the very few attacks that can be blocked with ease, the Lightreaper uses either of his swords to slash at the wayfarer. Sometimes there is also a sudden thrust. | It is best to block this attack to gain an opening to strike |
Rapid Spin | The Lightrepearer at times can spin on his own axis with both swords drawn out causing damage in any direction he moves | This attack is quite fast but can be blocked. Dodging is more effective in avoiding damage altogether. |
Fire Arrow trail | This attack deals damage over a larger area. The Lightreaper unleashes a three-pronged fire trail that resembles an arrow that is pointed toward him. | The center line of the attack is targeted towards the direction the Lightreaper is facing. You can simply back away as the Lightreaper prepares to attack. This attack is sometimes repeated in succession. |
Fire Strike | The Lightreaper strikes his swords at the ground to unleash a line of fiery explosions in the direction he is facing. | Move away from the line of fire as soon as the Lightreaper strikes the ground. |
Leaping Thrust/Slash combo | While running, the Lightreaper leaps up in the air and performs a single sword thrust into the ground followed by another leap which ends with a dual sword slash. | You can dodge the first strike and block the second hopefully with a parry to gain an opening. The Lightreaper is momentarily stuck after the second strike. |
Energy Blast | The Lightreaper covers himself with his swords and shield and unleashes a powerful energy blast with a fairly large radius around him. | Move away as far as possible as soon as you see him charging with all all his weapons used to block himself. |
Firespin Strike | This unique combo involves the Lightreaper spinning his swords which are now lit up and ends with a grand dual sword slash. | Back away as he begins to spin and dodge the final attack sideways. There is also a quicker version of this attack which needs better timing to negotiate. |
Summon Nazgul and Fire | Move away as far as possible as soon as you see him charging with all his weapons used to block himself. | Move away from the Nazgul’s line of fire as it begins spewing fire. |
General Tips For Defeating The Lightreaper
It is prudent that you work fast while facing the Lightreaper. The Lightreaper is relentless in his attack pattern but leaves several openings for you to exploit. One major exploit to watch out for is during the sword strikes. The Lightreaper is momentarily staggered after each strike, especially during combos. You can make use of this opening to land as many heavy hits as possible.
The Lightreaper can also be immobilized momentarily with a rapid strike when he has his back to you. Look for opportunities to catch the Lightreaper with his back turned to you. Launching attacks this way will allow you to deal more damage than with straightforward attacks.
His ranged attacks in particular are quite predictable. There is a leap backward before launching any ranged attack. You can look for these cues to prepare accordingly, and dodge them to create your own openings. The ranged attacks are also ideal windows of opportunity to launch your own spells. Any inferno spell will be effective against the Lightreaper.
Frost spells can also do a fair bit of damage while hindering the Lightreaper’s progress momentarily. While dealing with the Lightreaper from a distance may seem like the best course of action, you shouldn’t rule out close-quarter strikes as they tend to do more damage. The most important thing of all when dealing with the Lightreaper boss in Lords of the Fallen is to keep at it and continue attacking.
Following a combination of these strategies will let you deal with this boss and defeat him in as few tries as possible. Furthermore, always remember to carry the Ignite Cure elixir to deal with the obvious status effect that this encounter will cause.
