Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds introduces a diverse world filled with a variety of monsters, ever-changing seasons, and equipment to experiment with. Forging and crafting new weapons is a major part of the game, helping you take down giant monsters as you progress in the storyline. Mystery Bones are materials that can strengthen your weapons while also helping in crafting durable armor. Here’s a guide to all locations & methods to obtain these ancient remains.
Mystery Bones: 3 Ways To Obtain It
Mystery Bones aren’t exactly rare in Monster Hunter Wilds, but they can only be found in certain places.

Here are three ways to get them:
- Searching Bonepiles
- Defeating Monsters
- Completing Main quests & Side quests
Searching Bonepiles
One of the basic & starter-friendly ways of getting Mystery Bones, Bonepiles are a great source of the ancient remains. They are scattered all over the map and don’t require any special items to dig them out. Just open the map and go to filter icons, then select “Bonepiles”. Select “Set the highlight” to show the icons on the map.

This will show you all locations where Bonepiles are present on the map, indicated by a yellow icon. Make a waypoint to these locations and interact with the bonepiles once you see them. While they don’t look any special, rummaging through the pile has chances of giving you the Mystery Bones. You can also get Sturdy bones, another material for building stronger armor & weapons.
List of Locations of Bonepiles:
Windward Plains:
- Area 1
- Area 9
- Area 10
- Area 16
Scarlet Forest
- Area 4
- Area 6
- Area 10
- Area 15

Oilwell Basin:
- Area 3
- Area 5
- Area 7
Iceshard Cliffs:
- Area 6
- Area 14
Ruins of Wyveria:
- Area 4
- Area 5
Bonepiles are technically infinite sources of Mystery Bones since the piles tend to regenerate after the timer ends. Each pile will have a timer for 15 minutes, after which you can go and search those spots for some material again. To see how much time is left for the Bonepile to regenerate, open the map and go to the selected Bonepile’s name. There will be a timer beside it showing how long is left for it to be ready for gathering once more.
Defeating Monsters

While this method isn’t as easy as simply searching piles, it has a higher chance of giving you some Mystery Bones. Defeating Monsters is a vital part of the game, and you get rewards for either slaying or capturing those powerful creatures.
The rewards can range from Mystery Bones, Iron Ores, and Raw meat to Mystery Orbs and Monster Keenbones (only from high-rank monsters). One monster that has Mystery Bones as a common drop is Porkeplume, found in the Iceshard Cliffs. They tend to be in herds and are the smaller kind of monsters.
Bulaqchi also tends to drop more Mystery Bones. They belong to the Neopteron kind and are usually seen in Windward Plains. Rafma, also found in the Iceshard Cliffs, are herbivores that use static energy to take down their predators. They can also be used for getting some Mystery Bones.

A guaranteed way to obtain Mystery Bones is by completing all kinds of main & side quests. They’ll also give you plenty of other rewards that can help upgrade your armor & weapons. Here’s a list of some quests that have a high chance of rewarding you with Mystery Bones:
