Rise of the Ronin features an open world with many villages that need to be saved from the Bandits. Soon after getting thrown into the game’s open world, you will defeat multiple enemies in the surrounding villages until you meet their leader, Gonzo.
After getting defeated, he will plead and beg for his life. But should you spare or kill Gonzo in Rise of the Ronin?
Is It Better To Spare Or Kill Gonzo In Rise Of The Ronin?
Having played the game for several hours, I strongly believe you should spare Gonzo in Rise of the Ronin instead of killing him as there are way more benefits and rewards for sparing him. While killing Gonzo may give you more rewards immediately, sparing him results in better rewards later in the game.
What Happens If You Kill Gonzo?
If you choose to kill Gonzo, here are the rewards you will get:
- “Merciless” Player Title
- Jigen-Ryu Combat Style
- Bandit Chief’s Odachi
- Storehouse Key
- Power Remedy x6
- Oban x1
- Red Nuts x2
- Sulphur x3
- Other random equipment items
Some of these rewards will come later rather than immediately. The only unique thing in this choice is the “Merciless” title which gives +1 to your Strength when equipped.
What Happens If You Spare Gonzo?
Here are the rewards you will get immediately if you chose to spare Gonzo in Rise of the Ronin:
- Storehouse Key
- Power Remedy x6
- Oban x1
- Red Nuts x2
- Sulphur x3
Gonzo will run off after you spare him, but you can meet him later in the game during The Bad Bunch side quest in Yoshida-Shinden. In this mission, you will have a choice to kill or spare Gonzo again! Sparing him again will result in Gonzo being added as your Ally. You can then strengthen the Bond with him to get the Jigen-Ryu Combat Style and his Bandit Chief’s Odachi.
