The First Descendant is going to be a grind-heavy game where you want to push your characters, or rather Descendants, to the max level as early as possible. Similar to games like Destiny 2 or Warframe, you need to upgrade plenty of things to make your Descendant the strongest it can be.
In this guide, we’ll take a look at the max level cap in The First Descendant. Let’s get started.
What Is The Max Level In The First Descendant?
The maximum level you can get for your Descendants in The First Descendant is 40, and the maximum Mastery Rank you can get is 30. These are the two main things you can level up in the game. However, once the full game launches, the level cap may change as it doesn’t take too long to reach the level cap.
The game borrows a chapter from Warframe in its leveling system, where you need to level up your characters and weapons separately. You don’t need to do anything special to level up your Descendants. As you play with a specific Descendant, they will gain experience and level up normally.
However, to level up your Mastery Rank, you need to go to the Prime Hands terminal in Albion when you have enough experience. You’ll get a notification letting you know when you can level up your Mastery Rank.

Click on the terminal once you reach the Prime Hands and activate it. This will start a cutscene, and you’ll rank up in your mastery after that.
To level up your Mastery Rank, you need to complete missions, level up your Descendants, improve proficiency with weapons, etc. Leveling your Mastery Rank up gives you different perks and bonuses, such as increased Module Capacity for both your Descendant and weapons, extra inventory space, Storage, and more.
Remember, the Descendant level is separate for each Descendant you own, but the Mastery Rank is the same across the board.
To get to the level up for your Mastery Rank and Descendants, we suggest grinding out missions like Collection or Seizure, where you face hordes of enemies at once. Repeating boss missions will also give you a lot of experience that can help you get towards the mastery level cap.
What Are Mastery and Descendant Levels And How Do They Work?
The Descendant levels are all about the character you’re playing. They give you small stat boosts and unlock new skills as you go up in levels. Meanwhile, Mastery Rank shows how much progress you’ve made in the game overall. It affects how much stuff you can carry, what gear you can hold, and the cool things you can do with legendary weapons.
Advancing in Mastery Rank takes a lot of work because you have to increase the rank using Prime Hands in Albion. On the other hand, you gain experience for Mastery Rank automatically from all the activities you do.

To make your characters stronger, it’s important to spend time and work on leveling up your Descendants so they can reach their full power. Getting higher Mastery Ranks and Descendant levels is important because it helps unlock important parts of the game and new abilities. You can also use in-game money to help level up, make progress more easily, and have a stronger team of characters.
Leveraging different chances to gain experience, like finishing missions and beating enemies, is the main strategy for leveling up Descendants. If you work hard enough, you’ll be able to max them out before we see any level increases, which are sure to come.
