Wuchang: Fallen Feathers takes a little while to really click, especially when it comes to combat and weapons. After spending a good amount of time testing each weapon type, you realized how different the experience becomes depending on what you pick.
There are five main types, and each one does feel distinct. Some felt clunky at first but got better with time. Here’s a breakdown of what stood out for me, and what you can consider depending on your style.
1. Long Sword: Pretty Solid and Easy to Get Into

The good starter choice is Long Sword. It feels smooth like a lightweight katana. Dodging is easier because it does not take too long with animations. It is not the flashiest, but you can chain spells without being that worried about it.
- Main Stats: Strength and Agility
- How Fast It Builds Energy: Very fast with basic combos
- Abilities You’ll Want:
- Sword Counter lets you parry. Felt a bit like Sekiro honestly.
- Crescent Arc is a cool spin with a dodge escape built in.
- Weapon Suggestion: Try to get the Lashing Whip Long Sword early. Looks wild and gives bonus reach.
2. Spear: Long Reach, Takes Time to Feel Good

The spear has a massive range, which felt awkward at first but rewarding once I got used to it. It’s at its best when you start chaining abilities, allowing you to stay aggressive and control space efficiently.
- Stats Needed: Agility and Strength
- Energy Rate: Starts slow but becomes easier with the right abilities
- Best Moves:
- Spear Veil is a solid counter move.
- Solar Leap jumps you right at the enemy , great for closing space.
- Weapon Pick: Steam-Powered Spear is nuts. Chains extend the reach and feels so satisfying in groups.

3. One-Handed Sword: The Caster’s Friend

This one did not carry much appeal for me for a long time, primarily due to the limited range. Yet it is ideal for magic focused builds. It boosts spell power and even generates energy passively, which is super useful.
- Focus Stats: Magic, maybe some Agility
- Energy Game: Excellent if you use it right
- Abilities To Look At:
- Flickering Blade spins and gives some defense
- Slicing Zephyr tosses a mini tornado, nice ranged follow-up
- What Makes It Special: Spell Power scaling! Helps a lot for casters.

4. Dual Blades: Fast, Flashy, All About “Clash”

These are just straight-up fun. Super fast attacks and the clash mechanic let you cancel enemy swings. It feels even more amazing once you enter that flow state. Felt squishy though, not much room for mistakes.
- Stat Priority: Agility, Strength
- Energy Building: Pretty decent if you trigger clash often
- Must-Have Skills:
- Blade Aim for speed boost + health on clash
- Sudden Strike is your spinning flurry move, default but upgradeable
- Play Tip: Dash, combo, repeat. Timing clashes correctly is key.
5. Axe: Feels Slow at First, Then Hits Like a Truck

This is the one you should get in case you prefer big weapons and a slower combat pace is not a deal breaker for you. It takes time to get into the rhythm. More importantly, you really have to commit to your swings. But when it lands, it lands hard. Slow, heavy, and utterly devastating.
- Key Stats: Strength and Vitality
- Energy Mechanics: Big burst from finishers
- Good Abilities:
- Earth Shaker slams down and leads into combos
- Chop and Weave lets you clash on the third hit (super helpful)
- Advice: Don’t button mash. You need rhythm and spacing.
Each of the weapons in Wuchang possesses a curve. There are those that feels underwhelming at first, then end up transforming into powerhouses once you unlock the right skills. The trick that worked in my case was that I tried every type until one of them resonated.
Keep in mind that since you can respec for free, there’s zero penalty for switching styles later on. Just one caution: don’t overlook the skill trees. Some upgrades completely transform how a weapon feels and functions.
