Tragedy struck the Korean film fraternity and fans when Parasite actor Lee Sun-Kyun was found dead in a car on the morning of December 27, 2023. The Seoul police discovered Lee’s body in central Seoul after the star was reported missing.
How Did ‘Parasite’ Actor Lee Sun-Kyun Die?
Lee Sun-Kyun apparently died by suicide, as reported by Yonhap News Agency. Lee’s family told the police that the actor had left a suicide note at home earlier that morning. The police also found a charcoal briquette in the car, although its relevance seems murky at the moment. Lee was pronounced dead at the scene and hence wasn’t rushed to the hospital.
According to a New York Times report, Lee Sun-Kyun was already under police investigation over suspected drug use. Lee had denied the allegations and claimed he had been tricked into taking drugs by the hostess of a high-end bar.
Lee tested negative in the drug tests performed by the police. The actor also claimed that he was being blackmailed for money by another person under investigation.
Lee’s family will be mourning the actor’s death at a private funeral, as revealed by the actor’s talent agency. Meanwhile, the police are treating Lee Sun-Kyun’s death as suicide and are expected to reveal additional details as the investigation progresses.
