Zack Snyder’s highly awaited epic Rebel Moon received a limited theatrical release on December 15, 2023. Touted as the most expensive Netflix film of the year, the massive sci-fi project is split into two parts, with Part 1 coming to the online streaming platform next week.
When Will Rebel Moon Release On Netflix?
The first installment of Rebel Moon will release on Netflix on December 21 at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT. The second part is currently in the works and will release next year. According to an official Netflix blog, Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver will release on Netflix on April 19, 2024.
But why is there such a huge wait for the second part? While an official reason hasn’t been provided for this, the need for more time to polish CGI and implement feedback from the first film could be considered as a major reason. Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves, films from Zack Snyder’s other franchise, were released five months apart, so Netflix seems to be following a similar pattern with Rebel Moon.
While the movie could have been released in one single installment, Synder wanted to keep the runtime short and hence split it into two parts. While talking about the runtimes for both the parts of Rebel Moon, Zack Snyder said in an interview with Collider,
“[I] had really wanted to keep the movie close to two hours. That was like a thing I really wanted to do.”
When Rebel Moon Part 2 releases in 2024, it will be one of the shortest movies in Zack Snyder’s filmography.
