In an episode of the podcast Monsters, Magic, and Madness, the voice actor for the upcoming Alan Wake 2, Matthew Porretta seems to have accidently slipped out a crucial piece of information about the title’s release date.
Declared in 2021, the sequel for 2010’s Alan Wake has been a topic of great debate and anticipation. With no official announcement from the developer after their 2021 announcement during the Game Awards, this news is the first solid lead in a while. Turns out, the actor who voices the protagonist of the games has revealed that the game will be releasing this year. While talking about Alan Wake 2 on the podcast, Matthew said,
“I’ve been working on it, that’s supposed to come out in October, but we’re in the middle of working on it now.”
The voice actor further opened up about the project, claiming he was just in Finland before appearing on the podcast. That is where the developer of Alan Wake 2, Remedy Entertainment, is based. He also shared his experience working with the Remedy team, saying that they are very nice to work with and reminiscing about his audition and selection experience.
Alan Wake fans are overjoyed by this news, but some remain rightfully skeptical. While this information may be true, it is highly unlikely that the studio will permit its lead actor to make such a crucial information public. Some believe that this may just be misdirection, offering thousands of excited fans just something to nibble on as the supposed October deadline passes by. It could also be a publicity stunt, with the makers just stirring the pot to maintain the hyper around Alan Wake 2.
On the other hand, an October release window does make sense for this sequel of an immensely popular horror survival game. Being the Halloween month, October is the perfect time for releasing horror/supernatural content, as proven by many game developers and movie studios.
