Set up in 2022, the QA team for Apex Legends in UK is closing down for “restructuring of the business”. This information was delivered by an anonymous source to Insider Gaming.
As per the exclusive report, this move has affected around 50 contracted workers. The decision to not renew their contracts was communicated to the team yesterday on a “Business Update Zoom call”. However, project leads and managers were not informed of this shutdown by EA and instead found out via the contractors.
The UK-based QA team had been working on Apex Legends since Season 16. Since their performance was up to the mark and the team was hitting their targets well, the news came as a shock. Some of the affected workers barely have a few weeks left on their contracts.
A source commented,
“Everything seemed to be heading to a normal renewal ready to tackle the next year of plans for Apex.”
In February this year, EA decided to lay off about 670 employees in a bid to move away from future licensed IP. The reason back then, according to the CEO, was to “optimise our global real estate footprint to best support our business”. The company had previously cut off 6% of its workforce back in March 2023.
