After claiming the gold at DICE Awards, Golden Joystick, and The Game Awards, Baldur’s Gate 3 continued its winning streak at the 2024 BAFTA Games Awards.
Baldur’s Gate 3 took home the BAFTA Game of the Year trophy, beating Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Zelda: TOTK, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and Dave the Diver.
Larian CEO Swen Vincke accepted the prestigious award. Expressing gratitude for the win, he said,
“I still can’t believe we’re standing here.”
The DnD-based RPG also won the first place for Music, Narrative, and Performer in a Supporting Role (taken by Andrew Wincott, voice of Raphael). Finally, the public-voted Player’s Choice award was also snagged away by the Larian team.
Across 18 categories, Baldur’s Gate 3 got 11 nominations and 5 wins. In comparison, the game had received 9 nominations at The Game Awards, out of which it won 6 awards. Clearly, BAFTA was a tougher competition for the highly acclaimed RPG that continues to retain a healthy player base months after launch.
This year’s BAFTA showered love on many deserving titles. Alan Wake 2 won three trophies, while Spider-Man 2 could manage only 1. Indie games like Viewfinder, Venba, and TCHIA got away with a trophy each.
