After being massively hyped by fans in the days leading up to its release, Dragon’s Dogma 2 opened to Mostly Negative reviews on Steam. Players unanimously complained of numerous performance issues and unexpected microtransactions the game is riddled with.
In an attempt to control the damage, Capcom has come forward with an officially apology and the next steps it intends to take to make amends. In a new post on its Steam page, the developer wrote,
“To all those looking forward to this game, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.”
Capcom revealed that critical issues like freezing and crashing were being investigated and fixed. Players can expect high priority patches to be rolled out in the near future.
Another major complaint players voiced was the lack of a New Game feature in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Capcom assured in its apology post that it is “looking at adding a feature to the Steam version of the game that will allow players that are already playing to restart the game.”
The company did turn a cold shoulder to the discontent caused by microtransactions, mentioning a list of items that could be “obtained in-game or as paid DLC items.” The DD2 team ended the note by acknowledging and explaining the frame rate issues and that they are “looking into ways to improve performance in the future.”
Despite the player consensus being mostly negative, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is currently topping the Trending list on Steam. Whether or not fans accept Capcom’s attempt at an apology remains to be seen.
