Darkest Dungeon 2, developed by Red Hook Studios, is all set to release on Steam on May 8, 2023. The game’s demo was launched in February this year, a few months after the Early Access version was made available in October 2021.
The official Steam page of Darkest Dungeon 2 contains a message from its developers:
Many of you got a glimpse of the game during Steam Next Fest. We want to send a massive thank you to those who played our demo in February and sent us feedback. Based on your comments, we made a number of improvements to our driving system, the Valley and first-time user experience – along with a huge swath of new content and features.
At release, the Darkest Dungeon sequel will feature 12 playable characters. The game will have a complete 5-act narrative. Each act will be an adventure and will require the players to survive through a number of dangerous locales in an effort to get to the Mountain, which is home to an intimidating final monster. The 1.0 version will have two brand-new acts as well as The Flagellant, the blight-fueled 12th playable character.
Darkest Dungeon 2 devs on mod support
Talking about the modding support, the Red Hook Studios team also mentioned,
Modding support is also something the team is very passionate about. As many of you know, modding has been an incredible part of the Darkest Dungeon community and it’s something that we are eager to bring to Darkest Dungeon II. We’ve got a lot of great ideas to facilitate your ability to get creative!
The developers have also offered a discount on the original Darkest Dungeon for a limited time. The pricing for the second game will be revealed on the day of launch.
Darkest Dungeon is popular for its dark theme and turn-based RPG combat, and Darkest Dungeon 2 release will happen 7 years after the first instalment. Let’s hope the wait turns out to be fruitful for fans of the franchise.
