Game Director Jaeho Hwang seems pleased and voices his delight. Based on his response, he appreciates the community a lot for being engaged and offering valuable input through the early access period. They helped us find flaws and enhance several systems which resulted in a mostly bug-free and feature-packed 1.0 release.
What is Dave the Diver?
If you haven’t heard of this charming game yet, Dave the Diver is a 2.5D pixel art experience where you explore the deep sea by day and manage a sushi bar at night. You play as Dave, a diver who craves deep-sea-diving adventures, gathers fish and leads a fascinating life enough to be jealous of. The game’s mechanics involve management, action-adventure, and role-playing elements.
Dave the Diver’s gameplay loop makes the overall experience quite addictive and re-playable. You can modify your equipment in between dives to increase the profitability of your trips and your ability to deal with underwater enemies. Some of these ‘quality of life’ upgrades (that ultimately tie to the gameplay) include – making your oxygen tank larger, improving your swimsuit so you can dive deeper, expanding your inventory, and manufacturing and improving your weapons so they inflict more damage.
You must keep a tight check on your oxygen tank during your whole journey since it cleverly doubles as both a life bar and a carry load limitation. If you don’t handle this well, it will significantly slow you down when you collect too many fish and other loot to conveniently take back to the surface.
And once you are done managing resources underwater, there’s a lot that requires your attention on the ground. After all, the sushi bar ain’t running itself!
Later this year, Dave the Diver will be arriving on Nintendo Switch.
