UPDATE (April 10, 2024): A spokesperson from EA told IGN that the rumor about Dead Space 2 remake being cancelled isn’t true, because the project wasn’t in development in the first place. They said,
“We don’t normally comment on rumors but there is no validity to this story.”
In light of this new information, it’s safe to say that a Dead Space 2 remake might still be a possibility.
ORIGINAL STORY: Dead Space fans might be in for disappointment, as the word on the street is that EA has cancelled the Dead Space 2 remake. This intel was offered by renowned insider Jeff Grub during an episode of the Game Mess Mornings podcast.
According to Grub, the underwhelming sales of the first remake is the reason Dead Space 2 was shelved. The Dead Space remake, released in 2023, was welcomed by fans and critics alike, but the sales were slow. The game eventually sold over a million copies, but EA clearly had higher expectations.
Jeff Grub revealed,
“…so they were working on it, they were working on Dead Space 2 and they are no longer working on it. It is on the shelf because the first game had lacklustre sales.”
This rumor does not immediately mean the Dead Space 2 remake will never happen. However, EA’s focus has moved to the highly anticipated Iron Man game and the next Battlefield title, both under development at Motive Studio (the team behind the Dead Space Remake). As reported yesterday, Motive will also work on all future content for Battlefield 2042.
With so much on Motive’s plate, it seems highly plausible for the DS2 remake to be off the table, for now.
