Destiny 2 fans have flooded Twitter with debates on whether or not another sequel of the game is necessary. Some players believe that continuing to rely on a game that is over five years old is a mistake and are calling for a fresh start.
The Destiny Show tweeted about the need for a third part, and it quickly began a trending topic. Although there’s no official word on whether or not there will be a Destiny 3, it’s clear that fans are excited over the possibility of another installment.

Twitter was filled with arguments about the potential of a new game over the recent days, but no official information about Destiny 3 has been released by Bungie.
Sony acquired Bungie, the creator of Destiny 2, in 2022, but fans have been frustrated with the game over the years. Lightfall, the latest expansion, had a big launch, but it didn’t go as planned. Earlier this month, the studio admitted to “missing the mark” due to players ‘dissatisfaction with the quality of the new content.
I don't want a Destiny 3
I want the engine it runs on to be updated/rebuilt
it is 11 years old and it shows.Tis time for the Tiger Engine to go. o7

Some players pointed out that Destiny 2 is becoming more problematic with each patch update. They suggested that Bungie either fix or upgrade the current game engine or create a new game like Destiny 3. While most fans seem to support the idea of a new Destiny game, a few disagree and stated that starting over would be too much of a hassle for the players.

Id be 100% down for destiny 3 if it was actually destiny 3… but I feel like it would just end up being mainly recycled destiny 1 and 2 stuff over a long period of time https://t.co/Vs9nLV9lj9

However, the concerns seem to be more about the challenge of starting from scratch all over again than a lack of appreciation for the game’s current state. Others argue that upgrading Destiny 2 to a new engine would be a better solution than starting over with Destiny 3. They believe that a new game would require players to regrind and restart all of their acquired weapons and start from zero, which would be tough for many fans to accept after the time and effort they’ve put into the current game.
I love it when I hear people beg for a Destiny 3 since Bungie has stated that they will not split the game again and will continue to update it like an MMO many times
I could have sworn that people didn't want to leave behind their old gear either
So what do you actually want pic.twitter.com/8M7MHGr4GF

I NEED MY CABAL TITAN BUNGIE

To put things into perspective, Destiny 2 still has plenty of content coming its way, including new seasons and “The Final Shape” DLC, which is expected to be the conclusion of Destiny 2’s plot ahead. As Bungie remains silent on whether or not a new Destiny game is in the works, fans will naturally continue the debate over the need for Destiny 3.
