NateDrake reports that Square Enix does not currently have plans to port Final Fantasy 7 Remake to Switch 2 or Xbox.
“FF7 Remake is not a current plan. Could it happen, eventually? Sure. Is it an active plan at this moment? No. A Switch 2 release exists in the same way an Xbox release does. IF Square wants to do it, they can & will; but no such plan exists at the present.”
According to previous leaks, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was expected to run on the new Switch 2 with performance comparable to a PS5. But the new rumors suggest otherwise.
Earlier Leaks For The Final Fantasy 7 Remake
A credible leaker, I’m A Hero Too, has proposed the possibility of Final Fantasy 7 being a launch title for the upcoming Switch 2.
I’m A Hero Too stands out among other rumor sources due to their strong connections within the Japanese gaming industry.
They mention that development kits and altered console versions for game creation have been available for a considerable period. This new console is said to offer backward compatibility with the existing Switch, featuring a novel cartridge design and an intriguing camera function. Speculations suggest that this new camera feature might be linked to an augmented reality (AR) initiative, aligning with recent rumors surrounding the Switch 2.
Square Enix had previously discussed plans for remakes of Final Fantasy 6 and Final Fantasy 10. They initially aimed for a Summer 2024 release for the Final Fantasy 9 remake, but it seems this timeline is uncertain due to the need for additional refinement in the game. Additionally, the Final Fantasy 10 remake is currently being worked on by a smaller team and won’t be ready to mark the 25th anniversary of the original game.
Other Titles Rumored For Switch 2
Far Cry 7
The primary information comes from Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming who revealed key details about the game codenamed ‘Project Blackbird.’ This includes the target release window of Fall 2025, a shift from the Dunia engine to Snowdrop, and other aspects. Although Henderson emphasizes that the game is still in development and specifics may change, Far Cry 7 appears to feature a non-linear storyline where players aim to rescue their abducted family members from a conspiracy group called the ‘Sons of Truth.’
Monster Hunter 6
According to the latest rumor, the upcoming Monster Hunter 6 by Capcom is slated to launch not only on the Nintendo Switch 2 but also on other gaming platforms. This information was shared by Universo Nintendo’s Editor-in-Chief, necrolipe, on the enthusiast gaming forum Famiboard. While specific details about Monster Hunter 6 remain limited, previous rumors hinted at the possibility of it being titled Monster Hunter Paradise, a leak initially discovered through a discord datamine and later affirmed by an official discord partner.
