Since the first GTA 6 trailer came out, the community has been patiently waiting for the 2025 release. But when a recent report by Kotaku claimed the game had been delayed to 2026, it understandably caused quite a stir on social media.
Now, another party has come forward claiming it was just another baseless leak. Senior Editor at Insider Gaming, Mike Straw has quashed Kotaku’s report on X. He claims to have learnt from “multiple sources” that GTA 6 is “on schedule”, which means it will most probably launch in 2026.
The sources also told that:
…any suggestion of a delay at this point in development is “pure conjecture”
The Kotaku report that first ran the rumor in question cited staffing issues as the reason for GTA 6’s possible delay to 2026. According to the article, employees’ unwillingness to return to office could trigger production issues.
Since Straw’s X post, the Kotaku article has been updated to cite more sources who suggest that GTA 6 may not be targeting an early 2025 launch. The new target window seems to be Fall 2025, but there’s still a chance of the game being further delayed, according to the report.
GTA 6 has for years been a hotbed of rumors and leaks, mostly inconsequential. Between Insider Gaming and Kotaku, it’s objectively difficult to tell who has more reliable sources. I guess we’ll have to just wait it out until the next believable leak comes to light.
