It has been over a decade since the most recent installment in the Grand Theft Auto series made its mark, and Rockstar Games has been uncharacteristically quiet regarding GTA 6. Now, an interesting report by Rockstar Mag has surfaced. Let’s take a look at all the new insights.
According to the report, there should be a plethora of technical advancements present in GTA 6. Since its creation, Rockstar Games has been using its ever-evolving proprietary engine Rockstar Advanced Game Engine, or simply RAGE. The information provided in the report points towards a substantial enhancement in the newer version of RAGE.
The most recent game from the studio, that is, Red Dead Redemption 2 used RAGE 8, which features some of the most advanced and sophisticated innovations in the game development history. And now, it is reported that GTA 6 will be based on an improved version of the engine, RAGE 9, bringing updates to the following characteristics:
The Physics of Water
One thing that has always bugged game developers is water. Now, Rockstar is looking to revolutionize the water simulation physics. With the new feat of obtaining physically simulated water in an open-world video game in real-time, we might see more integrated activities with the ocean such as surfing. Below is a video illustrating the movement of water in a wireframe:
A Real Weather System & Time Management
GTA 6 will reportedly have an improved weather system which will impact the game’s environment and gameplay. Things like wind gusts battering the vegetation, and waves disturbing the beaches will be often occurrences. The sunlight and sunsets will also be more realistic.
It is also reported that time management will also become more realistic, and hence there might be some sort of advancements bringing a more immersive experience when it comes to morning, day, evening, and night.
Other Improvements
- Better Vehicle Physics will allow more customization, accurate accidents, and precise driving.
- Introduction of Physical Simulated Light based on PBR (Physics-based Rendering). PBR has been used in RDR2, but we will see a more advanced version this time around
- We will see better-quality renders for various objects such as cars, clouds, textures, etc.
- Interaction with NPCs and Police will be improved thanks to advanced AI.
All of these changes are only a small portion of the improvements that are going to be present in GTA 6, and it would not be foolish to say that it will easily surpass Red Dead Redemption 2 in terms of graphics and physics.
