The Xbox Developer Direct showcase of 2024 offered the first ever glimpse at Machine Games’ Indiana Jones game, dubbed ‘Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’. The first-person action-adventure game is set to release in 2024.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set to take place between two canon Indy films, i.e. Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Great Crusade. The young Indy that players will embody in The Great Circle has been modeled after but not voiced by the legendary and the only ‘Indy’ Harrison Ford. The titular character in the game, although looking like Ford, will be played by Troy Baker. Mixed with loads of platforming, puzzle solving, and yes, whiplashing action, The Great Circle is poised to be a thrilling and cinematic game.
The developers at Machine Games have decided to make the game first person in order to offer players an immersive experience. However, during certain cinematic and platforming sequences, the game will switch into third-person. While the game will focus mainly on puzzle solving and creative approaches to progressing through obstacles, the combat in The Great Circle will feature a variety of weapons – some collected through scouting the environment, such as hammers and shovels, some guns, and of course, Indy’s trademark whip.
The developers have taken extra care to make the gameplay with whip engaging and creative – making it available for players as a versatile tool that can be used for traversal, puzzle solving, and distracting patrol guards, along with combat. Approaching the Great Circle as a movie, the developers have used many talented actors to facilitate animation styles that will garner a true cinematic experience.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set to be a globe-trotting adventure for the titular Archeologist, taking him to various places – from lost temples in South America to snow laden Himalaya mountains; from deserts of Africa to Pyramids of Egypt.
As for the platforms, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set to release for Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series S|X in late 2024. The game is also stated to be included in Xbox Game Pass.
