For those wondering about Black Cat’s sexual orientation in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the game has confirmed that she is bisexual.
The prominent Marvel Universe character Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat’s bisexuality was confirmed by the company back in 2021. However, that was regarding the comics universe, and it left gamers unsure whether the character had the same orientation in Insomniac’s Spider-Man video game franchise. And now that Spider-Man 2 is out, we have the answer – yes.
Black Cat made her first appearance in a DLC expansion of the first Spider-Man game by Insomniac. However, she has a meatier role this time where we learn a little about her past and she explains to Miles that her girlfriend in Paris needs some help. This, without spoiling the game, confirms her queer status.
There’s more LGBTQ+ representation in the game. Only some time into the storyline, you will be tasked with a side quest where Miles Morales will need to help a guy who is nervous about inviting his boyfriend to homecoming.
The Middle East Was Unhappy With Spider-Man 2’s Release
It is clear that Insomniac has always taken a progressive stand on LGBTQ+. However, this has gotten them into trouble in the past.
The Middle East has always taken a strong stand on much of the content that has been released over the past years. Popular games such as GTA 5, Final Fantasy 16, and The Last of Us 2 were banned in the region due to explicit content as well as religious sensitivity. This sparked some rumors about Spider-Man 2 earlier this year, implying the game was not supposed to make it to the region due to the queer content.
Thankfully, it was not true.
The X account VGSR_SA, which is the official account for the age classification of electronic games in Saudi Arabia, shared an update last month. According to the update (embedded below), the publisher and Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Media Regulation have made an agreement to classify the game after some alterations for the ages of 16 and above.
Translation: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been classified after the publishing studio approved the modifications required by the General Authority for Media Regulation. The game is suitable for ages 16 and above.
