Allegra Marland, the Lies of P Sophia voice actress, did not have months or weeks to prepare for the role. Instead, she got her hands on the script only on the day of recording.
In an exclusive interview with GamesHorizon, Marland opened up about her role in the new Soulslike game. When asked if she knew the whole story before recording her lines, she revealed,
“No, I was told the whole story on the first day of recording.”
Since the launch of Lies of P, players across the world have praised the character as well as Allegra’s performance. Many gamers have acknowledged the emotional impact of Sophia’s ethereal presence in the game and how it adds a ray of hope in the otherwise dark world of the game.
Sophia in Lies of P is actually so dhasdahsdkasd I think there's just something about waking up amidst chaos to have a guiding entity lead you forward w/ a gentle and ethereal presence. It's so good in that dark tone that these games share. pic.twitter.com/RC1TxNFW9W

Before recording Sophia’s voice for the game, Allegra Marland did know a few of her lines since she had voiced the Lies of P trailer a few months before. But it was only on the first day in the booth that she received all the information about the game, its story, the characters, and more.
Talking about her collaboration with Neowiz Games, the Lies of P Sophia voice actress said,
“Then they sat me down and they showed me all of her artwork, all of her world, where she lives, what’s happened. They told me the whole story visually with the video. “
Lies of P Sophia voice actress didn’t have a lot of time to prepare
During the interview, Allegra also talked about how she prepared for the role with the creative team. She said,
“You don’t get the script more than four or five days before, so you don’t have loads of time to work on the script.”
The British actress mentioned that her favorite thing about the recording process was the teamwork and that she was receptive to the team’s notes. Allegra apparently didn’t want to prepare too much before the recording session and wanted to know what the producers and designers wanted.
Detailing her creative process, the actress said,
“I find imagery very useful, and the image of her that I was given is so detailed.”
According to Allegra, she also had access to gameplay footage and often recorded alongside it. She reportedly had a photo of Sophia in front of her all the time while speaking her lines, which was part of her visualization technique as an actor.
The creatives at Neowiz also gave Allegra ample freedom to explore the character in her own way. Recalling the same, the Lies of P Sophia voice actress said,
“After we pinned her down, they then just let me fly and handed over the trust, which was really nice.”
Allegra has previously voiced Millicent in Elden Ring, and her performance in the game was highly appreciated by the community. It might be safe to guess that her role in the FromSoftware game might have played a major part in Allegra being chosen as the Lies of P Sophia voice actress.
In less than four days of its launch on Steam, Lies of P has crossed $5 million in sales and garnered mostly positive reviews. The game currently has a Metacritic score of over 80 across all platforms and continues to gain popularity, especially among the Soulsborne community.
